Oh, I suppose a carbon capture plant could use unreliable intermittent power if you don't mind intermittent unreliable operation.
Which, since it's relatively automated and is meant to follow arbitrary government quotas, is, technically, fine.
However, pumping corrosive, deadly to oxygen breathing life, liquid CO2 into underground time bombs of mass destruction is a risky and unregulated gamble with human lives.
See mass CO2 death flows from volcanic lakes ( Africa, Ring of Fire ) that hideously slaughter entire villages.
I point out CO2 plus water equals Carbonic acid which dissolves limestone and human lung tissue, eyes, throat linings, etc.
So far we have zero data on the stability or casualties probability of the CO2 Sequestration schemes.
I point out the hysteria around fracking for natural gas with a few thousand gallons of water causing earthquakes and ignoring the potential effects of pumping millions of gallons of corrosive pressurized liquid CO2 into holes in the ground.
And in a world run by SCADA devices, networked control systems in every aspect of technological civilization, you have to add to the odds some valve or pipe or hidden crack in rock... Accidentally fails and kills entire towns, to the real problems of hackers both recreational and evil governments. Plus terrorists.
Take the example of the Russian pipeline explosions. While various conspiracy theories abound over motive that I can't answer. The conspiracy theories about HOW they exploded involve secretly planting bombs from submarines and passing boats, but Occam's Razor says the easiest explanation is that turning valves at the control station caused pressure changes that caused the plugs of Methane Clathrates to decay.
It's so much easier and covert, with near zero chance of getting caught, to give a technician orders to push a few buttons in a secured facility in Russia, vs. a bomb planting operation involving ships, crews, remote operated vehicles and hundreds, even thousands of people.
Ditto, while one ecoterrorist, with bolt cutters and a crowbar, could suicidally dump an underground sequestration volume and murder thousands, a Chinese hacker could do the same from a different hemisphere from his office.
See also Joe's paid for approval of Chinese 5G companies and the known habit of Chinese electronics companies to build backdoors into their computer chips so the CCP has unlimited secret access.
The bigger the sequestration facility, the closer to large numbers of people, the riskier it is.
True, as a poison gas goes, CO2 isn't persistent like nerve gas, or dangerous in trace amounts. You need a literal flood of gas to murder villages, like has happened naturally with volcanic gasses infusing lakes.
But I'd really prefer we don't create artificial potential death cloud facilities where by accident or malign intent a ground hugging mass of escaping CO2 can wipe out every animal for miles downwind.
But that's current policy to make more money for the Climate Cult mega rich.
I don't trust the Biden* Occupation to block out the Sun and not plunge us into a genocidal civilization ending Cold Age.
Their utter disregard for the elegant simplicity of Constitutional limits on power in Their corrupt hands doesn't indicate any understanding of the insanely complex planetary systems that interact to give us our climate.
And their willingness to lie about both is Settled Science. Not actual science.
It's controlling people's lives for ego and lower and grand theft on a scale not seen since before Martin Luther.
I doubt I have to give any other reason I'm opposed to this than I don't trust our current government to not mess geoengineering up, based simply on their fundamental dishonesty. I've got other reasons, but the first one is serious enough.
Worse, it's now becoming obvious, that the makers of Solar and Wind collectors bribed politicians billions to make the trillions they were given from our taxes and fees.
Also increasingly obvious is the Reason this movement exists is to take away freedoms and give power to, by definition, evil men who can't control us without the most cruel of lies and fearmongering.
As a fairly recent coffee addict, I wonder if the Ritual of drinking coffee, as opposed to just the caffeine and withdrawal aspects, are big factors.
And how much, if any, the coffee brewing part has anything to do with the study.
The coffee addict community has the Pour Over and Espresso factions that have complex rituals, scores of videos where self proclaimed experts push their perfect methods, etc. Ditto for many of the forms, like Turkish hot sand techniques and that Italian cast aluminum bomb thing who's name I forget.
Heck, even loading the Black & Decker drip machine each time is a minimum ritual act. (I'm not proud to say I think I've done it wrong in every possible way )
And ritual, whether prayer, meditation, exercise, zen gardens, martial arts katas, etc., all affect the brain waves and chemistry.
Mostly I zombie into the kitchen in the morning and load & turn on my drip machine, which has a minimum load of 2 big mugs.
They're disposable, as the boiling tube gets crudded up with minerals. You can extend their lives with coffee cleaning stuff, don't use vinegar.
Someday I'll snap & buy a Technivorm Mochamaster. Partly because it's a hand made Dutch piece of art that makes perfect coffee every time, and partly because it has the coolest name, ever.
I've got a French Press, & like it even better now that I learned the "trick". You can use a paper filter to make your brew more clean, but it's a pain. I don't mind some grounds in my cup, but some do. The trick is to Not Press. Pushing the filter through the water/coffee column stirs up the grounds. So just pour through the filter plane left at the top of the water column into your cup. Much cleaner. About the same as a drip machine with metal mesh filter. Duh.
Tip#2 for Any steeping method, where you leave the water & coffee grounds together, then filter and pour, is timing. It turns out there's not much difference between 2 1/2 minutes, and 5, or even 10. After 10 minutes you do start to get the undesirable flavors I'm told, but 5 is fine. You only get a little more extraction of coffee goodness over 2 1/2 minutes. ( I do 3+ because it reduces timing anxiety, or laziness, your choice )
I also like my Clever Dripper. A steep and release/filter cone gizmo, it doesn't demand the intricate ritual of a pour over, but feel free if you enjoy that. It's super fast to clean, just dump the filter w/grounds and rinse the gizmo. It does one good sized mug of high quality clean coffee, with a little more body than a pour over, cleaner than a French Press, and doesn't care how you boil your water.
Down sides are it takes 4+ minutes, preferably at least loosely timed, AFTER you get the water boiling, so add that to total brew time. Preparing to brew is simply folding & inserting a cone filter and measuring in some coffee, ( countless debate on measuring techniques! ) and I think it helps if I stir it once in the middle somewhere. ( I like a swirl technique some crazy Brit does on videos ) Also, limited to one proper mug or two dainty cups.
I have friends that love their Aeropress, and if you love that concentrated little cup, they rock. Especially for camping! ( I prefer French Press )
A buddy loves his aluminum bomb, I mean Mocha pot. It's It's own flavor, taste is taste.
And my brother in law has a stupidly expensive Espresso machine with onboard computer. Works nice.
I want a Syphon, but only for the novelty, really. Don't want to clean one.
I'm not saying it's impossible for a roughly half ton lump of harder than normal meteor material to be an interstellar probe from an alien civilization, but if it was, it broke up and won't be sending any data home anymore. And hopefully the heat killed any life still onboard. Won't lose any sleep over it.
Just wait until the mass murders of winter by the Energy rationing policies of Biden* script writers.
I expect peak to be soon after the inevitable transition between "fossil fuel free by 2050, and no new gas powered stoves and heat" into actually turning off the gas to the peasants by Government Decree, and bet New York shall lead the way to digging mass graves for the victims of the Green New Deal. ( renamed Inflation Reduction Act as part of the fundamentally dishonest nature of authoritarian leftists )
The staff at the big SCA events consider the heat index at events to determine if they want to postpone a big martial arts tournament, since the competitors are wearing heavy protective gear. Fencers, in particular, are required to cover up with the equivalent of Two Layers of jeans denim, everywhere. Even Olympic fencers don't do melee combat and thus have masks open in back for ease of use and cooling. SCA fencers do, and thus require more coverage.
I've spent decades treating heat exhaustion and heat stroke. ( the difference is, do I have to stuff ice packs in the pits & groin of an unconscious person, trying to drop their core temperature, and hope to keep them alive, or will some diluted Gatorade and shade while their friends strip them to their underwear do? )
That's no hyperbole. That's what I've done, year after year, until the Panicdemic shutdown all non approved group activities.
The really Bad Thing is how little attention the Media wants you to have about a major government appointee lying to you to justify using police powers to restrict your freedoms.
The above editorial about lying to justify oppression, doesn't get into how government policy on switching to unreliable intermittent power actually INCREASES the odds of people to die of heat as the power fails, no AC, when it's hot and oppressive, no wind, reduced solar. ( Thanks to Saint Gretta's sponsors )
And while it's a statistically, and emotionally, significant number of excess deaths from heat in Europe, caused by the Climate Con Cult, the real danger of mass death events comes in winter. Europe is a temperate and Mediterranean climate, and still cooler than in Roman Empire times.
I'm sure that a study of bank accounts would tell an investigation who is paying the government policies makers to, for example, depend upon Russian fuel imports to keep warm, cool, and open. But don't expect that.
I used to get tempers going around campfires for decades by saying, "If you believe in Man Made Global Warming, you can't Let Chinese drive a Billion SUV's, right? And the only way to stop them is war, so you are balancing Nuclear Winter ( apparently a myth ) against Global Warming ( apparently a myth, per the UNIPCC ) and justifying the murder of billions for a theory."
The steam and hot air that resulted from that was always entertaining.
It's an obsolete question. Now it's "Are you willing to let billions die of starvation and disease for a theory that can't predict last years' weather with all the data from the years before?"
Also potentially scary side effects. And potentially awesome possibility.
For example, and Pure Speculation, today, anyway, some people never get dental caries. ( cavities ) That seems to be a genetic basis thing. So a gene therapy treatment could greatly reduce suffering for... Billions.
I'll let you contemplate the potential paranoia versions of the technology to correct genetic diseases. ... Cures for...
There's a REASON some argue vehemently that certain "traits" are genetic and others against the same thing.
Suicidal thoughts from a weight loss/diabetes drug.
I'm on one of these! And I want it perfectly clear I have no evidence to convict Hillary Clinton!
Cya joking aside, while I get annoyed that the big increase in demand for these drugs makes it harder to get my own supply, they really CAN make weight loss easier by suppressing appetite, which is a Side Effect and not the Purpose of them.
I'm reminded I tried a Slimfast shake Once. And concluded the loss of appetite was mostly because it tasted so bad I was nauseous for hours.
If you get on one of these drugs, be AWARE of potential unwanted side effects. Suicidal thoughts are pretty serious! If you get them, call your doctor!
I'm no neurobiochemistry expert of any kind, so I have no idea how these drugs produce such side effects. But I did know a stoner so desperate for a buzz he let some good old boys in NC talk him into trying Jimpson weed, and told me it was the worst trip he'd ever been on, and ...
I'm a Big Believer in learning from other's mistakes. It's why I'm still here after doing the many risky sports I've done. ( backup parachute for aerobatic flight, good idea! Don't hug the center line in left hand blind corners because your head is in line with incoming truck headlights. Check! )
It's Green Sharia. Total religious control of daily life and law. Based on visions of prophets.
Ditto it's Real Fascism ( which Has been tried in real life, see the Obama regime ) where the government controls industry by picking owners, cooperative and willing to kickback/launder taxpayer's money back into the pockets of the Politicians.
I can't vouch for this guy's numbers, but the logic is solid.
Because there just can't be a fast conversion to electric cars with today's technology, There aren't enough powerplant megawatts to charge them, there aren't enough minerals mined to make the batteries and motors, and saying the battery of tomorrow will solve that is not wishful thinking, it's religious garbage.
The Holy State will Make A Miracle! Follow me and The Holy State Will Provide! ( they hate the term the Holy State they worship as much as the God they reject )
Sure, it might happen, Fusion from seawater might be just 20 years away, but I've read that in books older than I am, and I'm not 20.
Joe*, and the people that write his scripts, lie about the costs for every car on the road being battery powered. If that's ignorance it's willful and deliberate because there are people who have done the math. So I assume they are lying to me on purpose, and people that lie to me on purpose are evil and thieves.
And then after lying about the costs, they tell me they will take money from richer people to pay for my car? Sure, there are a LOT of people richer than me, but frankly I think they are lying again.
Now, I'd LOVE if this fall they start mass production of a battery that uses easy to get plentiful materials in some nifty novel way. Nanotech 3d printed from corn stalks! Nachos are now a Patriotic Food! Yea!!! But I'm betting holding my breath for it is suicidal.
