Washington used to enjoy cheap electricity. Prices doubled when they connected CA. My dad still bitches about it.

Assume a hypothetical false flag fake terrorist organization. ( besides the current ones run by "you know" ) Goal is to cause an anti-"denier" backlash with antisocial media pushed violence.

Summer is nigh, and California power grid can be crashed at will by one small group ( 2 guys ) with a pickup truck, some basic tools, and a basic knowledge of power systems. One guy with a Honda 300 would do in a pinch.

It'd be easier for multiple groups, but multiple groups would be a sure sign of government coordination. ( that many actual domestic terrorists would leak and be known to modern FBI. After all, Google knows. Your phone listens and tells Google. Google tells the CCP & advertiser. )

Possibly, but they will have to wait. I have had a CRF300 on order since August. : (

A buddy got hooked on that cute Dutch gal crossing the Americas on her 300. On y tube.

So he wanted one! Went to dealer, no 300s, but one 250. It's too tall for him. Me too.

Whole centuries difference to his old Bultaco. : )

Re: Cali power failures yet to come...

Santa Anna winds, or just a stationary high, this summer, over L.A. basin and I bet it crashes, hard, with mass casualties. I hope I'm wrong.

Infrastructure attacks is how smart enemies would act.

With the unknown thousands of illegals from ISIS & Taliban & AQ now in the country by invitation of the Barry & Joe* show, some form of mass murder terror attacks are inevitable.

The "good" news is an Islamist group will hit a mall or Christian girls school. Traditional, easy targets, unprotected.

Antifa will do firebombing and cop murder for antisocial media approvals. Expect timing to match R Party primaries, maybe even D Party primaries if the voters look like they are swinging to Kennedy. This summer? Rallies under attack.

I'm hoping they're not smart enough to target infrastructure, but that's whistling past a graveyard optimism.

Interesting times!

Marry up? Down? By Income, looks, education?

My opinion is that it's going to take more studies, to pin down the trends, if they are real.

For example, if "education" is the chosen filter / parameter for a study on marriage, then Subject of education should make a difference. ?!? My guess is engineering students & grads will yield different results than Soft "science" students, and different than Social Activism students. In that order.

Remember, the most marriages today will be with people born near the Turn of the century. So fewer English literature students and more Social Activism ones.

My opinion is that will be a problem.

Every penny spent on the Global Warming Scam is a penny not spent on cleaning up the garbage from sh%&hole countries that dump everything in the river.

Every penny spent on fake predictions of Climate Crisis is a penny not spent on actual research.

Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect, coined by Michael Crichton, applies.

The same people that tell you the world is ending, tell you socialism is compassion, tell you gender is choice, tell you you are racist for saying 2+2=4, etc. Etc.

I usually rate economics as a soft study or religious cult, since you can find 3 shaman claiming different things about the world, all be wrong, and all firmly believe that they are right.

That doesn't count people like the White House Staff who will flat out lie that there's no recession, because they don't want to be blamed and held accountable.

Interesting, if long, article.

As we approach the 50th Anniversary of The Climate Con, ( 1977- if you skip "nuclear winter" scam ) it's worth noticing that 0% of predictions by the Con artists have come true, with a range of "we are DOOOMED in" dates from a few months to 22 years. 0%. Zip.

Further, the computer climate models have a perfect track record so far at 100% failure to predict last year with all the data input of the previous years. 100%!

In the now mythical world of The Scientific Method, 0% prediction accuracy and 100% models being wrong are considered fairly well disproved.

So I'm not even going to pretend with them their cult is anything but a criminal fraud.

Poorly written code, is all. The AI operates as it is programmed. They have obviously never read Asimov, or they would have written some guardrails to inform the AI of what it must never do. They programmed it to do something and to eliminate all barriers to accomplish its mission. They should have made the code update the mission when they called off the strike. Sounds like they did not, so the AI simply treated it as a barrier. Not bad computer, bad humans.

Jaguar battery safety recall. LG batteries!

Reminds me that Samsung had a serious QC/safety problem with batteries for phones and laptops, etc. I went through several batteries that swelled, and just "died", even aftermarket replacements that my Samsung phone killed. ( needed reset/relearn to properly charge, maybe. If lucky )

So Next Year's LG batteries might be ok, but they're a major problem, today.

And at this point, I don't know for sure if the problem is QC in the batteries, programming, charger, or installation/cooling system.

After years of doing QC work, I can tell you that the Chinese can do great work.

Or utter crud. India, same deal.

It depends upon management. The owners and if they care, or sometimes just if they figure they can get away with it or not.

That said, once you've under cut the prices of your competition, and become the only plant making something, the incentive to care about repeat sales diminishes and the temptation to cut corners increases. A LOT of auto parts are now not made here, ( USA, Mexico, Canada ) at all now, so they probably suck. And that's with the upper management of those companies still here. Once the company is owned by some group "over there"?

There's more than one reason companies decide to go vertically integrated, or whatever the buzzword is now. Reduced supply chain problems and gives you more control over quality.

My experience is it's cheaper/more profitable, to catch quality problems early, so you can reject, repair, replace, the cheaper parts, before you build the assemblies that cost more to replace. Generally.

That said, the example of Harbor Freight is one of Satanic genius. And the opposite approach. They save money on Quality Control and compensate by accepting the cost of replacing the ( say, portable drill ) when it fails the customer. It's so cheap on the production end they still pull a good profit.

But that counts on volume sales and marketing overcoming the poor reputation. Coupons, tent sales, and extra cost warranties.

I needed a big socket to fit my hot water heater anode. That size Wasn't in my old tool box. The cheapest solution was the HF 7 pc auto lug nut socket set. Cheaper than any of the ( post Sears ) big box store brands for One impact socket in the size I needed, and I use the entire set a lot. I usually carry it and a HF breaker bar in my minivan. The emergency lug wrench is junk, and I get to be big hero whenever I help some stranded motorists.

( at NY Thruway rest stop, where towing can be $500+ ... Vacationing tourists far from home, having trouble, so I ask if they need help ( flat, yes good spare, lousy sheet metal wrench & low skills, cool, I can help ) ( insert proper, safe, easy with right tools task completed ) )

Would I rather have Snap On? Yes, and no. I buy quality tools when I can, but I've had my van broken into and tool box stolen more than once.

Last century I'd just go to Sears and buy the x00 pc mechanics set ( The cheapest one with crowfoot ( socket drive ) & ignition wrenches usually had enough to make filling in gaps easy ) and a box, and load one into the other on the spot, leaving the packaging in their garbage.

Nostalgia.

Tesla update.

Well, it has been four years, and still no regrets. I have done absolutely nothing to it except refill the windshield washer fluid.

The FSD software has matured significantly. The car drives me to work and to the grocery store with no interventions. An intervention is when I have to brake or turn the wheel, disengaging the self driving function. Truly remarkable. It has a way to go, but the trajectory is visibly trending toward level 5 autonomy.

One aspect that they need to work on is that it tends to drive in the middle of the road on unmarked residential streets. It is obvious from the intended path indicator that it is doing this intentionally. It did not used to. It does move over when another car approaches, but if there is no oncoming car, it rolls up to stop signs in the middle of the lanes. It does not leave enough room for a car to pass, should one need to turn right onto the road you are on. I have left that feedback for their devs.

Other than that little intentional quirk, it is fairly reliable. Freeway driving is absolutely solid. Merging, exits, passing slower vehicles are all flawless.

Until next time.

Yep. Recycling and mining garbage dumps is got to be a big deal, and soon. As soon as a resource is cheaper to get from garbage dumps than mines, dumps get valuable.

However, if it's a material with an ever growing need, you still need old fashioned mines, but in some cases the resource mining may oscillate between the two, in weird ways. ( depends on how smart the folk using the material are )

I mock some well meaning but short sighted ideas. Like dropping nuclear reactor waste in subduction zones to be recycled into the mantle. That's a mildly risky way to get rid of it, better than some plans, but it assumes you will never need the stuff. It's almost all rare metals heavier than Iron, thus statistically barely trace elements on the planet. They only come from Supernova. Plus isotopes that are only found in nature, on this entire planet, in amounts you could hold in one hand. ( don't, it'd kill you ) Or not at all. ( there was a natural fission reactor underground in Africa, that's where that handful comes from. A pretty freak deal. )

Plus it took immense amount of digging, processing, concentrating, and isotope separation to make the fuel that's now "waste". It's super expensive already.

Just store it until we figure out a better use than burning it in an Accelerated Decay reactor. ( which is not yet in production )

When we get serious about mining garbage dumps, we'll build the system to break it down into the different elements. Unfortunately that's going to have to wait until we have workable Fusion plants, or go to a fission economy with multiples of current total electric production. Because it'll be a power hog.
