Not Ukraine specific... I spent some time studying game theory. Basics, not the deep stuff, it confuses me.  Most was from Naval Institute publications, which... Specifically anti aircraft or anti missile theory, works out to simple math. The seekers and guidance systems to hit a moving Destroyer are simpler and cheaper than what you need to hit a moving missile. Smaller, faster, harder. That's just physics. Game theory goes into the numbers, if you can shoot 10 anti-missiles a minute, with a 50% hit rate, you get killed if the enemy shoots more than 5 missiles at you in one minute. Soviet era anti ship missiles are big. Jet fighter size, with huge warheads, to sink big ships. Anti missile missiles are smaller, but the electronics are much more expensive. The above is why the Strategic Defense Initiative, SDI, was criticized for being impossible. It's a nearly impossible job. Recently, some Naval historians, who are also sci-fi fans, noticed the ( newer ) Battlestar Galactica series among all the stupid errors in physics ( turning and banking space fighters ) actually got missile defense right. Very applicable to today's threat environment, with hypersonic missiles. "Flak is back". Modern ships need to "revert" to late WW2 concepts, throwing a barrage of hot steel shards from exploding shells, in front of the incoming threats, and their own speed will destroy (or blind) the missiles with the impacts. That's not to say anti missile missiles are obsolete, but they become the outer defense zone weapons, even more than today, where the very close last chance defense is systems like Phalanx. ( R2D2s ) You want an intermediate range ( 2-5" shells ) to lay down the hot metal clouds in the path of incoming threats. It's going to take years, decades, to design and build new ships, WW2 Cruiser sized, to carry the weapons mix and numbers to be survivable in 21st century combat. Ditto, land defense is going to take development of at least 2 ( preferably mobile ) gun systems. One is already designed, but not yet built in any numbers, nor mobile, a missile defense variant of the GAU-8 30mm Gatling gun used by the A-10 Warthog. ( Thunderbolt II ) The other is basically a main battle tank cannon that shoots as quickly as a machine gun... Or at least as quickly as a Bofors 40mm WW2 cannon. ( quite the job with 120mm shells! ) More on topic, to defend cities in the cruise missile/suicide drone world of Today is going to take Tomorrow's weapons, and in big numbers. And nothing, short of ending the conflict that produces the need for defense systems, can stop some missiles from getting through. ( why critics of SDI were "right" ) And since ending conflict is unlikely at the Miracle level, not building defense systems means the enemy will easily murder your citizens. ( why critics of SDI were wrong ) | ||

So, pure speculation, if Putin nukes the Wagner group on Russian soil, he'd avoid automatically triggering NATO. ( not that he seems to care, having a reputation as a brutal psychopath is his main defense. Plus, of course, actually killing enemies to intimidate others ) Oh, there'd be "outcry" and threats of sanctions, but nuking his own people probably wouldn't trigger a full on nuclear war, although it maybe should. If I was Putin's former caterer, I'd be watching the weather reports as much as tactical recon. | ||

Definitely be distrustful on any so called news from the region. As you can see form comments above, the "coup" could all have been some weird propaganda exercise. Going with the above IF the "coup" was real, then Putin wouldn't trust his former caterer to attack along a heavily guarded border with the troops proven disloyal to Putin. Drive them forward into a doomed assault with an artillery moving curtain, maybe. And "Wagner" isn't relocated, the troops are miles away in Russia, south of Moscow. They'd have to drive around Ukraine. Their "fearless leader" the former caterer, MIGHT be in Belarus. I haven't seen anything to convince me one way or another. One thing I'm sure of, Vladimir is not the picture you see in the Dictionary next to "Forgiving". | ||

Wagner is loyal to Russia and to people and Wagner is against the nazies so Wagner is going to capture Kiev from Belarus. And there is no heavily guarded border between Belarus and Ukraine. You care too much about Putin. Care about? Depends on the definition of "care". Do I care if he jumps into a shark tank? No. Care if he nukes London before I get to the Museum? yes. So, "care about" would be not at all. Other than the worry about who takes his place being more dangerous. And to be clear, Dangerous might be a guy who uses his power to start wars with their neighbors, or fails to keep the Russian House Of Cards from collapsing and leaving the planet with a nuclear war in Eurasia as would be Czars fight over the ruins. As to Ukrainian Nazis, Are you more philosphically, or pragmatically opposed to Nazis or Soviets? Based on Number of their own subjects murdered in the 20th Century, The Soviets come in #2 to the Nazi's #3. But that's not the only way to sort evil regimes. Anti Nazi is generally a no brainer. Pretty safe and accepted position. Anti Soviet is less popular among the Intelligensia and Media, like the New York Times, who lied to cover up genocide by Stalin, and never stopped lying about the Soviet Empire's crimes. | ||

Putin did not start the war. The war was started by Ukrainian nazi and the ones who sponsored them 9 years ago. Depending on situation Russia can use the nuclear weapon.
