Understand that on a morning like this when my back hurts, it's a good thing I don't have orbital push button slaughter ability. Because I'd surely decapitate the Putin Regime, and the Russian propaganda actors in TV and the internet. ( not my fellow Badwebber, though ) Maybe even before D.C.  And since I'm an Olde School Liberal and Women's Rights supporter... There's a scene in Hunt For Red October where the Admiral of a Carrier says... "This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it." If the President was a very different guy, and we had the proper pinpoint weapons, then I wouldn't be all that worried. But, not even close to the person I want to have his staff run a brinksmanship contest. ( I don't think they want to wake him, for fear he'll Sundown the nuclear arsenal ) And we don't have the fast pinpoint weapons deployed to stop a nuclear war. The Thor program is perfect for this, but if they ever built any, it's too top secret to know. Heck they might not even tell the President it exists. It's one of the truly insane things about the Cold War era of the Century long war of Authoritarian vs. Representative ideologies. If you develop a weapon that can precision strike missile silos and bombers, while being basically useless for Mass Destruction, it is considered a Too Dangerous destabilizing weapon. The Enemy would freak the frack out. Skipping the details... assume the destructive power of a WW2 V-2 or Tallboy and the cost so high & thus numbers so few, you wouldn't use it to bomb civilians unless you're a terrorist. Decapitations strike, sure. Bunkers, Silos, Ships, but not cities. Bottom line is being able to target the leadership ruins everything for the guys in Palaces, so it's just not going to be allowed. There's even more arguments against the idea than that, but as a civilian, I do like the idea of not using WMDs. As a cynic I don't want anyone to have that technology. | ||
