I posted this on XBoard by mistake. Thanks for the redirect and appreciate any advice. Corey Greetings all, I am hopeful about purchasing a Buell in the near future for my wife and I. Currently drive a HD LowRider (her) and Honda Magna in Maryland. We have both had the chance to ride the X1 and XB9 Buells, and would like an X1. Only requirement is the blue racing stripe cover, fairing etc (That or no Buell says the wife) I personally would like to purchase as new a Buell X1 as possible, an 02 Lightning or White Lightning. Figure the bugs will be worked out and less miles, etc. If I was lucky enough to find/buy a set of Blue racing stripe pieces, would they fit an 02 or 01 Lightning? I did search for this topic, and found one affirmative thread. Wanted to check once more. Thanks for your time, I appreciate any info/advice. HopeBuell |

Hey, I'm in Md. Was your wife looking at my bike? The blue racing stripe will fit if you can find one. They were ltd edition, 400 in US in 99. It would be easier to just paint what you get as long as it has a black frame. |

We'd like to look at the bike. We're in Odenton MD near Ft Meade. I didn't know there were only 400 made, makes finding a set of covers very difficult. Would you recommend trying to find an original 99 or shop for a black-bodied model and then painting as needed? I don't need to have the limited edition. Thanks for the info. |

There is plenty of reasonably priced X1's out there. A decent body shop can put paint on for a couple hundred bucks that looks the same. One glitch might be the white BUELL stickers on the tank and flyscreen,(I've read somewhere they are out of production) Check HD of Baltimore or with Dave on this board. Heck, red yellow, it's only the fender, flyscreen, tank cover, and chin. As long as the frame is black. Put the race footpegs on and nobody could tell the difference. Newer is almost always better and some didn't like their 99's with it being the first fuel injected model, but mine has never missed a beat. I'm in Fallston, if you get serious and a body shop needs measurements or pics, let me know. PS: I had a Road King before I bought the Buell. After a year of collecting dust I sold it. You'll never bother to get on the Low Rider once you acclamate yourself and personalize your X1. Now my girlfriend has a S1 with and old Yamaha collecting dust. |

Thanks for your help, especially the emphasis on the black frame. Many of the X1s come with the nuke blue frame that would not be right with the racing stripe model. There are a few 99 blue/white stripe models on sale on the web, will start with those and then see what happens. My wife rides the lowrider, too cramped for me, but she was the first one to ride and get excited about the buell! We want a sport bike we can both ride to go with the other two. |
