So, I have original fairing bags for my new-to-me S2T. They were in a barn for...decades, and the zippers are stuck. Frozen solid with some sort of corrosion. I've bathed them in WD40, no dice. Anyone have any tricks to un-stick stuff like this? Or am I looking at going to an upholstery shop to get new zippers put on? |

Have you tried PB Blaster? |

Yup. Now they're frozen AND they stink. |

It's a good stink though... I assume if you look around online, there's probably some kind of chemical that's better suited to eating away at the corrosion rather than PB blaster... something like CLR? although of course you'll want something that won't stain the fabric. If nothing else, they do make replacement zipper sliders. Just google them and you might find one that would fit. |

Oh, the slider ain't coming off. Not without a dremel. "Stuck", is an understatement. "Welded" may be better. Which is weird, since I thought the teeth were plastic...(shrug). We'll see. Not a huge deal, I just don't like looking at the wires inside the fairing. PB Blaster? Smells like crap to me. Now, if Hoppe's solution (gun oil) would fix it? I'd be in HEAVEN. I'd by scented candles if they made Hoppe's!! |

50% atf,50% acetone, soak overnight, I've broken motors loose with this one |

Haha I have a bottle of Hoppes that I use on some hand planes. I've heard people talk about it smelling good, but I never thought the smell was anything special. My guess would be that the plastic teeth are fine, and the slider is corroded enough that the inside of it just isn't the right shape to allow the teeth to slide through it anymore. I bet if you managed to break/cut the slider apart, the teeth would pop out of it fine and be in ok condition. |

The 50/50 mix of acetone/ATF is the classic mechanics recipe for breaking stuff loose. Its nearly as good as Kroil but the Kroil also has the benefit of not evaporating so darned fast. A big benefit of the 50/50 mix is that it does not have as strong of a lingering odor as the Kroil. |

They have the original Pegasus logo, same as the speedometer and tach. |

Nope. Atf/polish remover did nothing. |
