It's not a specious observation. The owners and coaches and trainers are not armored combatants risking injury and death to sell beer! That's true in Ceasar's Rome and Newsome's California. The racist part is a modern thing. I don't know or care if Ms. Cross has any solution to this "problem". Perhaps she wants to fire some athletes who are the "wrong color" so the risk of injury and high pay are distributed differently by race? Ban football? She's not the first to point out the parallels & won't be the last. If you like a tv show with blood, nudity, sex, backstabbing, sweaty muscular men, blood, serious violence, nudity, blood, sex, Lucy Lawless in a bath of milk, and blood... Watch "Spartacus, Blood & Sand". But I warn you, it's violent. First season, the second was a bit irregular. Reason I mention is that some guys sold themselves into slavery, to pay to keep their family alive, and hoping to be a star, & pay off their debt. Sure see parallels there. Not that the tv show was particularly rigorous in historical accuracy. That did happen. But mostly it was slaves and a horrible thing that was, and still is. But that aside, we don't have involuntary servitude in pro sports. Some just whine they are. And if you don't want to live where you get traded to, that can be annoying. Either go along or quit, and lose the salary 40 times that you could make at an "average" job. I'm not a fan, but friends are, of big team sports. American football and basketball, both almost require a "gifted" gene set, like supermodels and jockies. A "normie" with dedication and hard work might get on a top team. But generally it's sports for mutants.  That's not why I'm indifferent, it's the hype and money and egos. And paying taxes for a new stadium with more luxury box seats. I enjoy the Olympics and the variety of humanity. Especially figure skaters, but since we now have spandex, skeleton, luge, vollyball, even biathlon is quite engaging. That said, I recognize that the NFL employs a lot of people. Most indirectly. From reporters to t shirt makers. I don't wish it away. Still waiting for Rollerball. | ||

Who got arrested & how many shot each day is probably not too inaccurate, but everything else is political. Traffic isn't terrible either, but I listen to the local NPR & big centrist talk show stations, since they focus on different areas, expressway vs. surface streets?! Political, which is everything else, actively disbelieve. That's local. The Big Networks, utter wasteland devoid of trustworthy.... |
