Starting from left (pulley and pulley cover)
Light Blue: Spacer
Yellow: thin washer
Red: Lockwasher

Yellow/Blue big arrow is the point of contact between the pulley and the swingarm.

Is the Yellow thin washer supposed to be INSIDE the swingarm instead? Or it's in the correct position?

Just curious, might check that that someone hasn't added a spacer behind the pulley? It all looks correct from what I remember.

Yeah that looks correct. Same on my bike, except that I do have room between swing arm and pulley.

Falloutnl, How much room? The brushed finish pulley cover adds about 3 or 4mm (1/8" to 5/32") to the total thickness of the pulley.

Blks1l, I have to check...
...because I think the Pulley is not a Buell Pulley.
It was originally w/ a 55t but some old owner replaced with a 61T and it seems a Sportster 61T pulley.
It has a cast number: 40246-91.
looking from behind it "seems" perfectly inserted in the bore of the rim. I have to check if the pulley has been bored out correctly to buell hub specs.

It looks like this, I do have the X1 swing arm instead of the steel one, but I don't think that necessarily makes much of a difference.

Somewhere between .5 and 1 centimeter would be my guess? I'm at my parents right now, I'll have to hunt around for something to measure with.

Falloutnl, thank you for check.
It seems that it's only the pulley cover that adds the additional thickness.
Sincerely I don't like "covers" and I'll discard for sure (sooner or later).

If it's just a cover then that's an easy enough fix, haha.

If I remember right, the red washer is a split lock washer, so the yellow one needs to be there to keep it from scraping up the swingarm.

The 61 tooth pulley is probably from a European model Buell. I put one on my S3T.

Damnut, EU are Stock 55T (along with 29 T front)
Domestic are 61T and 27T
Mine is the first imported in Europe and had the 55T installed by Italian dealer/importer for homologation issues (and 2" exhaust too..... ) Then changed to 61T
It's popular mod here in EU to change to 61T for better acceleration .
I'm planning to change the 29T for a 27T too.

Removed the Buell pulley cover.
Not an easy task if you are alone and you don't want to remove the whole wheel.
It's not simple to remove the internal spacer with the bolts in place.
No more drag/contact between the pulley and the swingarm.

I had them backwards, I put the 55/29 on the S3T. lol I think I'm going to put the 27T front on and see if it is a little better. With the EU setup it is just too tall of gearing for me.

I'm considering a chain too . here a table to see how taller or short are the various ratio.

Ch/Be Front T Rear T Ratio
---------------------------------------
chain 21 48 2,285714286
belt 27 61 2,259259259
belt 29 61 2,103448276
belt 29 55 1,896551724
chain 22 48 2,181818182
chain 20 48 2,4
chain 22 47 2,136363636
belt 27 55 2,037037037
chain 21 47 2,238095238

Never really understood the need to go with a chain. One thing I love about my Buells is that - at least where the final drive is concerned - they are maintenance free.

other areas, not so much, haha.

Huge fan of the belt, always loved the lack of a need to clean and lube a chain. I do have that constant fear in the back of my head that it's just going to snap on me someday... but I guess life is about compromises.

That is the same configuration on my 97 S1. I have about 3/16" between the belt pulley and the swingarm (no pulley cover). My washers are in the same orientation too.
