Joe, check out Elzetta.com for lights. Really high quality, made in the USA. Spendy, but if you're looking to get something good... They have both shotgun and rifle mounts for their lights. They have a shotgun package deal if you go that route. |

Greg - I was actually thinking about that. My yard borders on hundreds of acres of uninhabited forest, but yes....the Mossberg 500 would make a much better choice. Gabriel - I'll check them out, thanks for the tip! |

You must now submit four character references in order to vote or exercise any other constitutional right. Just kidding. Just the 2nd amendment. https://www.foxnews.com/us/nypd-adopts-new-conceal ed-carry-permit-license-rule-supreme-court-ruling Me thinks another lawsuit is inevitable. |

No joke. When I got my NY permit I had to submit an essay and personal references. |

Yep. 4 character references in your county. My essay was all about responsibility for public health and service by cooperative Citizens working within the system. I cribbed a lot of it from the Federalist Papers on Militias. It took a few rewrites to get an honest statement that would not trigger Authoritarian jerks. ( I surveyed a few at work for opinions, but didn't tell what it was for ) New York State is a "may issue" State, it's completely up to the County Sheriff if he allows you a permit. His choice, no reasons needed. NYC? The Big Apple also requires you Know Somebody. Best if you're a Rich lawyer, too. I don't expect that to change, no matter what the Supreme Court says. The 16 hour training course will be required to renew your permit, iirc. It's initially for the NYC permit applicants, but later, everyone. And the Legislature is currently inventing the requirements for the instructors. ( since the class doesn't exist, yet ) |

MD was also may-issue. We might have become shall-issue, not sure...but I know we ditched the "good and substantial reason" clause after SCOTUS knocked NY in the dirt. I had to give character references, and do an in-person interview - but that was back in the "good and substantial" days. Never had to do social media crap. Training, yes. Live-fire, yes. Interview, yes. Nowadays, if I'm reading the crowds at the range correctly...you want one? Come take the live fire test, pass it, sign here...and wait. Could be wrong...but not sure, mainly because I can't get anywhere NEAR the range these days they're so busy! |

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/gwendolynsim s/2022/09/04/mass-stabbing-in-canada-kills-10-woun ds-at-least-15-more-n1626920 Some people can joke about mass murder. Some are offended. My guess is the latter are not going to deal well with it in person. Once upon a time, where I worked, each time there was a mass murder/suicide, some smart alec in the office would make a comment along the line... "19? I could do better than that with that much ammo!" in a mocking, joking way. Those jokes were Verboten. We had several that were Not Allowed. We also tended to upset the "experts" that would lecture us about how to respond to a workplace assault. Know your exits? Sure! Have a plan to gather in the parking lot to be counted? Yep, had that. Run from danger? Sure, go for it. We'll be behind you, covering your six. There might be a quiet argument about who gets to crush the shooter with a fork lift, but we'll get out to the rally points when it's over. Weapons were, naturally, forbidden to us at work. So all the combat veterans had was the incredibly dangerous equipment we used every day. Yeah, there were plans in case of Workplace Violence. Ones not approved in D.C. or printed out on the bulletin boards. More the informal "you get the girls out and I'll grab the forklift and Bob heads for the circuit breakers to strobe the lights and conveyor belts..." we hae a lot of vets. |

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kEZup9LdFzM ATF raids for solvent traps. And perhaps a tip not to deal with a particular vendor online. I'm flat out admitting ignorance here. I'm not going to look up online what exactly wtf this solvent trap gizmo is. And don't bother enlightening me. I've got a box with a plastic thing that says it's a bore guide & solvent trap that goes into the breach of a rifle so the cleaning rod goes straight, and it's supposed to keep dirty solvent out of the action, and despite being a retired precision machinist and perhaps falsely thinking I have a clue on how weapons work, from rock-on-a-stick to advanced kinetic energy weapons... like The Trebuchet, I have zero clue on how to make it a suppressor. Unless plugging the chamber counts. Consider the above my legal disclaimer and apology for ignorance of modern legal theory. |

Apparently the better "solvent traps" have multiple baffled chambers to ensure that the solvent does indeed get fully trapped. Coincidentally they are also threaded in common barrel sizes and pitches...and are built to withstand being shot through by the appropriate caliber(s). I think if people are willing to register them...let them have it...although the Second Amendment doesn't seem to say anything about registration... I was very close to building my own 9mm suppressor...but I found a ready made option for about what I'd have paid in materials alone. A few months ago a couple of goof balls brought in a Chinese Glock sear to the range. I asked if they had a tax stamp for it and they looked nervous and left. |

"48.0% of gun owners -- about 39 million individuals -- have owned magazines that hold over 10 rounds (up to 542 million such magazines in total), and 30.2% of gun owners -- about 24.6 million individuals -- have owned an AR-15 or similarly styled rifle (up to 44 million such rifles in total)." https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_i d=4109494 |

Well, in less dramatic news I sold my last fancy gun...my nickel S&W...and I'm buying a Taurus Spectrum simply because I can shoot one really damn well for some reason. I've also found that I can keyhole rounds in rapid fire at eight yards with both an XDS45 and a S&W Shield 45. I'll probably pick up the latter in the near future. These will be my first small guns. |

Besides, their logic is faulty (no surprise). How many guns does it take to have a mass shooting? Just one. Large purchases are not a reliable indicator. |

They aren't worried about "large" purchases - they just want to know WHO purchases. If I buy 1k rounds of 9mm...I must own one of those evil semiautomatic handguns. If my mother buys 1k rounds of 5.56, she must own one of those AR-15 "weapons of war". See how it works? They know they can't take the 2A...but they can sure as hell hound us for making use of it. Personally, I think it'll backfire. They have NO IDEA how many of us there actually are. It ain't just "the guy at the end of the street"...they're scared now? They're gonna PISS themselves once they realize who we REALLY are! (Message edited by ratbuell on September 13, 2022) (Message edited by ratbuell on September 13, 2022) |

Sorry about that. I commented on things in an article I read that was not posted to this thread. It talked about purchase price as an indicator of an upcoming mass shooting. Carry on |

So, I guess when I get my Wilson Combat EDC-9...that purchase price will mean I'm going to shoot a LOT of people with it, instead of the fact that it's a hand-made, competition-grade pistol? Wow. The left's stupidity knows no bounds. |

Yyyyyup. The unposted article postulated that the purchase of a gun safe, an arguably responsible purchase, would trip the “pending mass shooter” threshold. It’s not about finding the next mass shooter; it’s about getting around firearm registration bans. |

This was in an email from Virginia Citizens Defense League: "a work around for not using your credit cards to buy guns or ammo: Buying products at gun stores might be best accomplished using a "Gift Card". As a bonus, you might realize a discount for using the store’s gift card. A gift card has a special Visa, Mastercard, and American Express "PRODUCT CODE" that would be reported instead of a gun store code. So, if you wanted to purchase new or additional sporting goods or outdoor gear, buy a gift card first. Of course, if you purchase locally you can pay with cash. You could also use a money order or a cashier’s check if ordering remotely or locally. That would, of course, slow down the ordering process." Don't know how accurate it is. |

The left's stupidity knows no bounds. You wish. This is in intent the same as the 1968 "Saturday night special" ban that, just like the Clinton & subsequent " assault weapon ban" listed features to determine legality. ( but the 1968 law mandated features. ) And a 1860s law that mandated all guns sold be made to Military Specs! Both used the INTENT of keeping guns out of the hands of what is now called bipoc! And poor people. Just because the writers of the old law wanted the plantation life to continue, ( even if they had not been southern aristocracy ) and wanted slavery old school, and today's law writers want class Division even if they had not been Soviet Aristocracy, and want slavery, New Liberal Order style, that's just generations of evil. Both want a "colored" servant mowing their lawns and cleaning their mansions. Both fear resistance from their victims. By Any Means Necessary. |
