I don’t like chains because they sling lube everywhere, need a fair amount of cleaning and lubricating to be maintained properly and are more then I want to be spending to replace every 15,000 miles if I can get that out of it. I’d much prefer a belt or shaft drive. Having said that my last three bikes have been chain bikes. Lol. |

How's the Pan America treating you two months later? Still doing great? |

Love affair with the Pan Am continues, just under 5,000 trouble-free miles so far. Have followed some of the issues on another enthusiast's site, not plagued with any of those (so far). Not pretending there aren't a few year-one issues with the bike, but there are year-forty issues with some of the Pan Am's peer competitors. Mileage averages between 45-50 mpg, over a variety of conditions. Tires still looking like they have 3-5K left. |

Paul- It’s good to see you’re enjoying the Pan Am so much. I’m particularly interested to read that it fits you well since you and I are apparently built exactly the same. I guess I’ll have to try a test ride on one eventually. |

Hugh - The bike fits me well, as stated earlier, 5'8" with a 30" inseam - - "longerish" arms for my height, no issues reaching the bars or manipulating the controls for me. That said, I'm pretty malleable going from bike to bike - - realize some riders need to dial in every aspect of the ergonomics, guess I'm more of a "point-and-shoot" kind of guy. Plenty of tweaks are available in the after-market: risers, seats, pegs. . . and you have two settings for the seat. I've had a few 250-300 mile days, and might actually throw a set of foldable highway pegs onto the crash bars. . . Paul |

Funny to see this today. I just posted my recent trouble with my Pan Am in the BITA thread. I bought mine in April and have had no real trouble with it until this trip. I rode 2 hours in the rain Wednesday, and the oil light came on. It went away but a trouble code came up for the oil pressure sensor. I traveled on. Thursday I had some issues I attributed to bad gas as they passed with a refill. Friday the bike was flawless and I flogged it around North Carolina. A new guest at camp asked me about the bike, and for the first time I said I actually think I am going to love it. Saturday morning when I started it all the idiot lights were on and it was in limp mode. Tried everything I could think of and a couple of ideas from others. I got it "fixed" and made a 30 mile test ride. Unfortunately I missed lunch with Hugh and crew. Sunday it went limp again after 40 miles of my 600 mile trip home. This morning it stalled a couple times, but the only light on was the engine light and it ran normal to the dealership. I rode it for 4000 miles before I changed anything. I did put helibars riser on and highway pegs before this trip. Previously had ridden a few 300+ mile trips. With the riser I may eventually get a taller windshield. I am 5'10". I'll let you know what they find, if they do. |

Our Techs are being told to be especially thorough in making sure that electrical connectors, especially at the various control modules, are pushed fully home. Not just until the connector stops, but with extra force to ensure that the connector lock tabs become fully engaged. |

I just talked to an old friend that had a PA. He said the bike kept throwing a CEL, and the Dealership couldn't figure it out. They actually told him to just ride it that way, since the bike acted normally. He traded it in. He told me the PA's have something like a 60% major repair rate. |
