When I was a teen, Aspen was an awesome resort town, with a crazy, hardcore, sheriff, that, despite being a dedicated Liberal politically, ( refused to cooperate with Federal drug enforcement paramilitary over reach ) insisted his deputies learn to shoot straight and enforce the laws equally. Food and lodging was very expensive, and the less hyped Vail was a better bargain and skiing. My next visit, decades later, the veneer of fake Woodstock festival copycat vibe was thinner, and the Hippie Rich had become bitter Karens. ( long before the term was coined ) The New Aspen was not as welcoming to the "scotchguard bluejeans" ( the poor kid ski bums who spent their money on burgers and lift tickets, and not Patagonia fashion statements & luxury hotels) as before. ( and downright hostile to us hang glider types living out of our vans. So after an expensive burger, I kept driving to Telluride. ) Please understand, I fully grok the Townie attitude towards transient annoyances like tourists and college students. My friends worked doing the heavy labor at ski resorts in the East and I've been on both sides of the Townie divide. It's not a surprise that the bitter ex hippie kids rich run Aspen like their private Barony. The urge to demand being treated like Aristocracy is strong in the Regressive. Their fathers moved there to be the Big Frogs in the small pond. It's possible I'm being unfair to the Rich and Powerful who Demand conformity after being raised spoiled brats. ( as the Media hypes the New "Not a Biologist" as the First Black Justice. This week. ) Logically, Liz Cheney is the Party Media choice as R candidate. She'll probably be job hunting by 2024, and IMHO as a RINO would be a decent "even if we lose, we win" choice for the DNC. That's assuming they learned any lessons from picking Donald "Hillary will easily crush him" Trump. That's NOT a given. And Liz will have competition from DeSantis and Trump. Since the D Candidate will Again be chosen by the DNC, and the D Primaries are purely cosmetic, I anticipate the bulk of Media Attention will be on the R Primary Massacre after the 2022 mid terms. They'll simply cherry pick D Candidate wannabe attacks on the Rs, to report, and focus on lying about everything else. Of course, that means my predictions assume a continuation of status quo. I could easily be missing a paradigm shift. Nuclear war, Covid-23, ( Monkey Pox Aids 4? ) or the release of Ghislaine Maxwell's client list could change everything. | ||
