I wasn’t sure if we were discussing every day carry - or a specific situation, so,,, For every day carry (garage and carpentry) - I usually favor Spyderco. Good blade shape, they hold an edge well, easy to resharpen, and really affordable.  | ||

For a lighter duty event, (Dr appt., restaurant visit, etc) I like the natural handle (bone - wood) that is a little less intimidating if I do bring it out of the pocket. Like Buck, Boker and Case…  | ||

For traveling on the bike, I usually carry something that’s a little more tactical. From moderate Kershaws and Schrades to higher end Benchmades or Microtechs, to limited run or customs. Mike Franklin, Frank Centofante, Al Mar, John Greco, Robbie Dalton - are some of my favorites.  | ||

I feel a lot less guilty about keeping a couple Griptillions at 4 different houses. 😀 You make an excellent point about the wood handle appearing less intimidating. My last 2 are military tan with my name and USMC engraved in the blade. Tough to pass off as a “pocket knife”. Buddies has “84 Confirmed” in the blade . . . It’d be tougher. | ||

Court - I understand knives for every house. I don’t have multiple houses, but every building of ours has at least one knife and every truck has a Ka-bar (or something similar) and one smaller precision knife. (Yes, I’m a knife nut - don’t get me started…) R | ||

My EDC knives are Benchmade, Kershaw, and Buck. I carry two at a time. An assisted opening in my right pocket, a manual in my left. Usual set up is my Benchmade Barrage and my Buck Vantage Pro. I sub in my Kershaw Blur and Buck Spitfire. I also will rock my Benchmade Rift and Harley Davidson Venom - which is made by Benchmade - on occasion. I have yet to carry my Benchmade Contego as it is a little large for a 'pocket knife', and I consider it a collectable. On rare occasions I'll wear a fixed blade Ontario or Ka-Bar. I always wore one back in my MC Club days, but not much anymore. All my carry knives are Made in the USA, I know imported knives can be good ones, I just feel better carrying domestic. I also carry a Leatherman Supertool 300 and Magtac flashlight in a surplus 9mm molle pouch on my belt. (Message edited by Whisperstealth on April 25, 2022) | ||

I keep a Gerber Mark II in the driver seat. Most of my thought is used for avoidance. You win more fights by not being in them. My weapons are for corners. The Supertool 300 is a great tool. I think I use the Raptor more though. My favorite folder is an Estwing that a friend that retired from Estwing gave me. | ||

I got out of the habit for decades since it was a firing offence at work... ... and my martial arts training figuratively jumps over knives. A sword, I'm good. Bare hands, fine. Knives have a serious place in the art, I'm just not trained in anything smaller than a full sized dagger, and that for use against armored opponents. I'd be better off with my cane than a blade. In a knife fight, the winner goes to the hospital. I was once asked what my preferred Manual open carry weapons would be, Other than a sword. ( presumably in a gun free world where open carry was accepted ) Mace on the hip, Naginata as a walking stick. The choice of a Bishop & the wife of a Samurai. Range appropriate. ( fighting clergy at one time preferred not to use "violent" edged weapons. Thus, the peace loving mace.  ) | ||

My intended use for the knives I carry is 99% functional - (as a tool) and I simply enjoy the mechanical function or basic elegance that some knives have. Sometimes (but a incredibly small percentage of the time), I have reasons, or maybe I imagine I have reasons- to carry one for self defense. | ||

I'm considering a long range capable rifle. Most likely 6.5CM. I like these.   One a wood stocked, 8lb sporter, the other a 10lb varmint barreled rifle. I prefer the 110 action below to the Axis...but also prefer carrying around an 8lb rifle vs a 10. The plastic stocks coming with most new rifles are atrociously flimsy. This Axis II comes with a decent slab of wood. | ||

Senator Tim Kaine sent out an email about gun control. The Virginia Citizens Defense League had this analysis of it: Dear Mr. W.: Thank you for contacting me about gun policy. I appreciate hearing from you. It is painfully clear that existing federal policies do not provide a comprehensive approach to address the national epidemic of gun violence. [There isn’t an “epidemic” of violence caused by the misuse of firearms. The odds of being shot in most of the country are miniscule. The vast majority of murders using a firearm are limited to poor, urban areas and usually involve criminal on criminal violence.] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to report gun violence as a leading cause of premature death in the United States, resulting in the loss of 39,707 American lives in 2019 alone. [2/3 of that number are suicides, which does not qualify as “violence.” Justifiable homicides by citizens and police are also in that number.] For years, we have seen the scourge of gun violence in the tragedies of Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, and far too many other places. No single legislative action can eradicate the complex and deeply rooted issues of gun violence. The correct approach focuses on many issues, including improvements to our mental health system, better security protocols, and commonsense rules about gun use, such as keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals. [The catch is that for the gun-control crowd, ALL gun owners are considered “dangerous individuals.”] On April 15, 2021, Senator Warner and I introduced the Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act of 2021, which would implement measures adopted by the Virginia state government in early 2020 at the federal level. [“April Fools Day” would have been a more appropriate day to introduce that bill. The gun control passed in Virginia in 2020 that you are bragging about had no bipartisan support in the state. In fact, the largest gun-rally in the U.S. happened that year in rejection of those gun-control laws! And since those laws were passed, violent crime is up 20% to 40% in Virginia! You’re bragging about that?]. Our bill would enact an Extreme Risk Protective Order process, require background checks on all gun sales, mandate reporting of lost and stolen firearms, prevent children from accessing firearms, and limit bulk handgun purchases to one per month. By enacting comprehensive, commonsense policies that remain on this course, we can create opportunities to achieve meaningful policy reform across all levels of government. [None of that is “commonsense,” it’s just gun-control politics at its worst.] I also support commonsense measures like universal background records checks to keep weapons out of the hands of people who federal law has determined are too dangerous to possess them. I have cosponsored various pieces of legislation to place limits on high-capacity magazines; ban bump stocks, which were used in the Las Vegas shooting to enable semi-automatic firearms to mimic the rapid firing action of machine guns; repeal a law shielding gun manufacturers from civil liability; and close loopholes that allow domestic abusers to legally obtain weapons and strengthen protections for victims of domestic violence. I also support ending the manufacture of semiautomatic assault weapons for public consumption and expanding federal research on gun violence. [So, you have supported every hare-brained gun-control bill that Michael Bloomberg has pushed, with no regard to the constitutional rights of Virginians? What have you done FOR gun owners in all the years you’ve been in the Senate? I, for one, can’t think of a single thing.] The public supports commonsense rules, and so do the vast majority of gun owners. I will continue to work to bring about a comprehensive approach that will strengthen the safety of our communities while protecting our Second Amendment rights. As a gun owner myself, I know that you can be a strong supporter of the Second Amendment without tolerating the gun tragedies that are too often a part of our daily lives. [As a “gun owner,” you are an embarrassment. You’re not “protecting our Second Amendment,” you are urinating on it. You are punishing all gun owners for the actions of a small number of violent criminals and gun owners have had a belly full of such policies.] Thank you again for contacting me. It would seem that using banned guns and/or accessories in a heavily gun controlled state would not help the cause of pushing gun control laws...at least not in a rational sense.  Proving that gun control laws are largely useless, law enforcement or security personnel will generally not protect you, and being unarmed will not be very useful in a gunfight. Also, it would be nice if we would unperson such persons instead of giving them instant worldwide infamy...but here we are. | ||

I put an 11.5" upper on the shop gun. It is good. A shooter let me borrow his transferable grease gun for a minute. That was a good time. Thoroughly enjoyable. I set up a new piece of steel. Rick a, I saw earlier you were looking at a Savage 110. My experience has been very good with my old 110S. It's 7mm-O8 but quite the tack driver. I hand loaded some 162 bthp's and was able to get a 5 shot group in 1-1/16" at 200 yards. That was on an ironing board, lawn chair and a sand bag! Being a silhouette rifle it's pretty heavy with the 12 power silhouette scope on it but it's fun!! I don't think you can go wrong with a Savage 110. | ||
