I figured the current conflict is worthy of its own thread. The most interesting thing I’ve learned today is that every dramatic/heroic story has allegedly turned out to be bunk including- - fighter pilot “the Angel of Kiev” that shot down a bunch of Russian planes - the 13 soldiers on Snake Island that told the Russian ship crew to f*** themselves (they surrendered ) - Pictures of the current Ukrainian president in camouflage as if he’s ready to fight are several years old. He may well be there ready to fight, but the photos are BS. - the fleeing automobile run over by a Russian tank. Various explanations: it was a Ukrainian tank, the tank was just dodging shots fired at it, the driver of the car survived and was basically unhurt. There are at least a couple of other similar stories making the rounds. So I think it’s a good bet you can’t trust ANYTHING you see online or on the the TV about this conflict. | ||

I have personal intel. My sis managed to "friend" a military chaplain in Ukraine. They have connected, and I've yet to hear much more than that, but hey. A coworker has a daughter who's got a Ukrainian friend... not much to be done from here. I'd wanted to order a rack for my PC800 from a guy in Ukraine... oh well. Craptastic! I did get gas for my thirsty GMC with $.60 off a day after the invasion, got gas for M's car today at the best centaur off I could find. F pootin, hope he sharts himself. | ||

Most of those videos are propaganda and fakes. You can check street web cameras in the internet from Ukrainian cities and you can see there is nothing such going on in the cities. | ||

A good recommendation I just saw: before re-posting any photo purporting to show some astounding or heroic event, do a reverse image search. Many of the photos will turn out to be old, part of staged photo-shoots, etc. People seem to really be compelled to post this stuff. | ||

And his use of Polonium to murder his Enemies is a Statement. First, it's a Signature Soviet Murder. So he wants credit for ruthless murder. It's a weapon made from material literally not found in nature. You need to process it in a nuclear reactor, and chemically refine it from deadly toxic metals. And is orders of magnitude more expensive than gold. Otoh, a "dirty bomb" can be made from unrefined waste. Or shoveled up from inside the Nuclear Disaster that the Soviets created and Vlad's troops just occupied & posted pictures. So we have more questions than undisputed information about the Putin 2022 Invasion of Ukraine. I certainly don't trust either Putin's or Biden's* media reporting. I don't think Putin has the ability to take Europe all the way to the Atlantic this year. But he could murder millions this week, if he wanted to, and he'd murder Everyone to stay in power. So I wonder WHO informed you of these "facts"? Jen Psaki? I'm saying ANY of what you mentioned is factual or made up. I don't know. I'm pretty sure the Canadian Truckers didn't try to burn down Ottowa, and never intended to. And I know we landed on the Moon, since I've watched laser pulses come back from the retroreflector out there, on live tv, by Apollo Astronauts. I don't know when the footage of this week's Putin War was taken. But there is a war and dead bodies. | ||

^ I honestly haven’t seen any Russian “news” stories, but I can imagine their propaganda machine is hard at work. Note that I said the popular stories are allegedly bunk. I don’t know what’s true and I definitely didn’t get any of that from Ms. Psaki. I just noted a lot of people on social media being so enthusiastic about repeating these stories without the slightest clue to their validity, and that concerns me. The last thing we need is people convincing politicians we need to send troops over there. I have no doubt there is a war going on with combatants and innocents being killed. The most interesting thing I saw yesterday is how many divergent opinions there are (from seeming “experts”) on the root causes of Putin’s current aggression and the current state of things: - Continuing American efforts over the last ~20 years to pit Ukraine against Russia, while American politicians and companies profit from it have finally pushed Putin to this point. - It all ties into the Russian Orthodox Church and the split and formation of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church in 2019 (2 separate detailed opinion stories on that) and Putin’s desire to reunite the church. These opinions seemed pretty far-fetched to me, but there at least seemed to be some factual basis. - Russia is sending only third rate, old equipment for the invasion, and the troops are mostly 18-20 year old conscripts and things are not going well. Logistical support is woefully inadequate and military experts are baffled by why Putin would do this.Theories seem to run the gamut from “Putin is clueless and is about to be deposed by a coup” to “it’s all part of a master plan”. - Russia and China are collaborating behind the scenes to depose the US dollar as the currency of choice and this war is the first big step in bringing that about. I’m sure there are hundreds of far screwier theories out there. I guess we’re living in interesting times. | ||

Which according to Party Propaganda means we are isolationist anti gay, or some other lying crud. Putin's lies, from his ministries, are fairly transparent, from our distant perspective. I don't know if there is "systematic racism" by the Ukrainian government ( like the Klan Party is ) which in this context means oppression of Russian speaking people of indistinguishable ethnicity. The Soviets deliberately planted families throughout their conquered Evil Empire. Much as the Brits did in Ireland. ( different language and/or faiths, depending on where ) But it's the exact same excuse as the National Socialist Worker's Party used in taking the Sudetenland 80+ years ago. Plus the Soviets murdered 4-14? Million Ukrainians after the previous conquest. And The New York Times lied about it for Stalin & communist advancement, got a prize & haven't stopped lying to do so since. Good advice to be skeptical. | ||

In one sense, Ukraine is like Kansas. Grows more wheat than most of Russia, or Europe combined. ( when I was a kid, Kansas exported more wheat to Russia than grown in the entire Soviet Union ) And like Kansas, Ukraine is the home of Aviation industry, Antonov alone made most of the bombers and transports for the USSR. ( I wasn't joking on the other thread about buying a wing from there ) The largest flying airplane on Earth was bombed there just the other day. The Ant 225. Unlike Kansas, Ukraine had the #1 Soviet naval base in the Black Sea region, which leads to Constantinople and the Mediterranean - Atlantic - the rest of the world. It's incredibly important to the Russians and they conquered the Crimean peninsula after politely waiting for Obama to be reelected, as he Asked. Not sure what the U.S. analog is? Pensacola? I'm overwhelmingly curious - is Putin incompetent? Or is he sandbagging? Electricity is still on. Buildings are still standing. Trains are still running - destroying tracks is simple enough. Internet is still up. Citizens are allowed to leave (flee?). Rumor is there are/were chemical weapons facilities there that have been destroyed. Rumor is multiple videos on the "news" are out of date - the tank running over a car was reportedly in 2018; the president in camo was reportedly a few years ago; it's anyone's guess. I watched the Putin speech in Russian with subtitles, the rambling history made little sense to me, BUT Russia was invaded. Nato having facilities or allies on Russia's borders seems to be an issue with Putin (remember the cuban missle crises) We have mouth breathing idiots in washington and Putin is no fool. I have sinus issues too, but not as bad as you indicate you do, No offense was intended. But you have to admit the level of stupidity / corruption that we hear about in DC is breath taking. Ukraine was screwed over by the US, Clinton makes a deal and Russia gets 5k nukes that had been left there, I perhaps would have said you can have 4k after you turn over detailed copies of the manuals, docs and provide training for their care and maintenance, Other wise we will have to experiment with them to figure out how they work..  Obama sends non lethal aid ( said to be blankets ) when arms were said to have been requested. Trump sold them anti tank weapons? Biden is even talking of sending several million in aid. Hey Oldog, My question / response was half tongue in cheek, I really didn't think you meant any offense lol! But I really have thought about the phrase and where it comes from. And with my horrible sinuses and lack of fitness, I've long been the butt of jokes about heavy mouth breathing. You should hear when I blow my nose, the amount of people laughing and making Gabriel blow your horn jokes have been numerous over the years. These days I just laugh and go with it lol! Yes, I completely agree with you as to the state of incompetence and corruption in DC. It does take me breath away. It's not good that's for sure. I pray hard for Ukraine. Most people have no idea how much the Ukrainians have suffered at the hands of the Russians in years past. Very few that I talk to have any clue what Stalin did to them. While Putin may indeed be apprehensive of neighboring countries joining NATO, the thought of NATO using Ukraine to invade Russia is ludicrous in my mind. I have little doubt Putin would go Nuclear quickly were Mother Russia actually invaded by an army of any worth. I'm betting others know this as well. I just don't buy Putin's public reasoning behind this "Peacekeeping Action". I see this as a Money / Land / Power grab by Putin. I believe Ukraine's Agriculture capability, mineral wealth, and proximity to the rest on Europe are prime factors in this invasion. |
