But as always, morons are trying to stop it all...
Kemp said the bill's current lack of details would likely lead to confusion among civilians and law enforcement that could lead to more violence and legal headaches.
"I would find it difficult for law enforcement to distinguish between a civilian with an enhanced gun permit and a perpetrator or person they want to subdue," Kemp said.
Well...dipshit...here's how you "distinguish" the two. A legal gun owner, you probably won't even know they have a gun on them. A perpetrator? Will be doing something wrong (hence the term "perpetrator") with their gun and/or their person.
There.
Problem solved for ya.
Jonathan Gold, a Michigan-based firearms instructor and member of the non-profit Giffords Gun Owners for Safety, told ABC News the bill would encourage more vigilantism that would ultimately lead to more harm.
"I don't understand our regression to the old West, because this is what it feels like," he told ABC News.
Let me help you understand.
Criminals have NO REASON not to commit crime today. Weak-ass laws and an impotent justice system puts crooks back on the streets HOURS after they get arrested.
If good citizens felt protected by police - instead of helpless, because the police's hands are tied and they're hamstrung by stupid laws - we wouldn't feel the need to protect ourselves. But since cops are neutered across this nation when it comes to actually doing their jobs...we HAVE to take care of ourselves.
The average person has three choices when it comes to crime: 1. call the cops, and count on the cops to show up and fix things 2. give up, give in to the criminal, and accept whatever consequences there are 3. defend themselves as they see fit (and as our Constitution guarantees we have the right to do)
Hellcat and I will be at the range after work. New laser (smaller, brighter, easier holster work) to zero in, and new loads to get used to (HST, found a few boxes at a show not long ago so I picked 'em up for a good price).
I finally got my Sig M18 out to the range it shoots the range re-loads quite well. and its surprisingly accurate.
I like those guns. I shoot them in a very average manner. Normally I can shoot most anything quite well. The grip is a little too smooth and I don't like that it has a high bore center like the P250 it is based off of. Unnecessary.
Well, my wallet escaped unscathed last night, although a coworker (21F, living on her own for the first time) did walk out with a nice pepper pellet gun for home defense. CO2 powered, something like 1100fps...but won't go through her condo walls.
I did run a couple mags of HST through my hellcat - they definitely kick a lot more than my range loads, but I still put them all in the 5" bull at 20'.
Zeroed the new laser, too. I'd already cowitnessed it with the irons so it was close - but it was just a little low so my hits were all at the 12:00 spot on the 5" target. Small elevation adjustment, moved the laser up a scoshe, and I was dead-on centered.
Dumped a mag of HST, panic-style...everything inside the 5" target at 20'. Works for me (especially coming out of a 3" barrel!).
Today's job? Hit a local store, and look for a bigger safe...
its amazing that folks miss the historical aspects of todays events.
The mag gun is a fun science project I doubt it will ever be developed to the point that it will be an effective combat weapon
I will wait and see about the US freedom convoy, this could be a flash point.
I agree, many people who only see Party Propaganda on tv have no idea Canada is now a Dictatorship, whose Ruler cancelled the required session of Parliament needed to legitimize his temporary overthrow of his formerly great nation.
And the deliberately kept ignorant thus are not aware that the Leftist Elite Media is now an enforcement arm for Evil. That The "press" is now in the business of inflaming and aiming Mobs at Enemies of The Holy State. That their meager savings may be stolen at whim, and their freedom taken at any second. No money, no travel, no rights.
Flashpoint? Quite probably. Leftist authoritarian will exploit & probably run more false flag operation violence to advance the Abusive State. ( there are abused political prisoners today illegally held for Over a Year in D.C. )
........
As for the mag gun, not a practical military combat arm for infantry, not for years. The same physics that applies to E-bikes E-cars, & E-planes is the same for E-guns. Battery power density limits.
But practical as a range toy, and fringe hunting arm? Yes, in a few years at most.
Consider the development of the many hunting regulations/seasons for "black powder" etc. that give us such nifty oddities as plastic cartridge breech loader hunting rifles, the straight wall primitive? cartridges for some State's specialized rules ( rules obviously intended for guns like the Trapdoor Springfield, and mutated into AR platform big game hunting capabilities ) And so forth.
Or to take a local example, to hunt ground hogs that are ruining my shed and decks, I need a hunting permit IF I use a "gun" ( combustion chemical slug thrower by definition ) or "bow" ( muscle power storage with bent "limbs" ) but not a spear or Biblical sling.
I don't have any issues with taking the Hunter safety class again, and paying a fee for the hunting permit. In fact I will this spring. But other home's proximity means a normal shotgun or rifle is a danger or a perceived danger, to my neighbor's kids. I'm not complaining, it's common courtesy.
And Imperial Law forbids me sound suppressor tech for a firearm, that would make hunting less stressful for the dogs and kids.
I'm too old, slow, and broken to chase the speedy critters with a spear.
That leaves bow tech, sling tech, thrown tech, ( boomerangs, chakram, etc. ) and compressed air guns. Until the next generation of E-gun arrives.
I have considered digging out my Wham-O boomerang to practice, or getting a new Aerobee ring, ditto. Making a hunting level aluminum or carbon fiber version is right in my wheelhouse, I've made propellers for Ultralights. But arthritis...
There's slings, haven't practiced in years, but inspiration is out there.
Handled one the other night. Didn't shoot it, but fiddled a bit. Feels decent. Tiny. Balance seems good. Trigger is heavier than I expected, but it was a new gun with only (maybe) 50 rounds through it. Much smaller than my Hellcat. Store guy said it shoots pretty well; slide felt heavy to me so I'm betting it kicks quite a bit, but again, I didn't shoot it, only handled it at the counter.
I like the Box-O-Truth guys website tests on walls, which basically show, as the above test does, that a rifle will zip through most interior walls.
I also note that the 12-18" penetration " desired" for defensive shooting is almost always going to result in a bullet that passes through interior walls, there's no magic bullet. But? and .223 & other small high velocity bullets are likely to tumble after passing through sheet rock. ( As will heavy "brush bucking" ones )
Meaning you have an expanding curved "trumpet" shape that the bullets may travel as they tumble, so a shot that hits a wall may deviate several feet crossing a room. A straight line path from muzzle to wall to target ( such as a target that ducks into a known limited space on one side of a door ) is unrealistic. It may go yards in any direction, into a space you really don't want It to be.
To be fair, or worse, objective, Any weapon can do unintended damage to other than the target. History and romance novels are full of victims of bullets, arrows, spears and swords that killed after passing through the Bad Guy. Know your background!
A final, repeated, rant. Bird shot is for clays and birds and little critters. It won't stop an attacker with ANY reliability, it almost certainly won't reliably penetrate to vital organs. People have been killed by Bad Guys After they were shot with Bird shot.
And, it leaves a nasty wound that will certainly influence a jury against the user.

Bird shot only pisses off the intruder more.
My Mossberg pump sits cruiser-ready with an empty chamber (no drop safety), and a tube filled with 00 buck, then a slug. Then 00. Then slug. Then one last 00.
I also live on 4 acres, in a home with 19" thick stone exterior walls. Unless I run one out a window...it'll stay in the house. And even if I go out a window, the chances of hitting another house (or person) is...slim. We're all on multiple-acre lots here. I can barely SEE my neighbors' houses.

Speaking of myths and ranges...
In my county deer hunting is legal with bow, pistol, shotgun. But not rifle, due to short distances and population density. 2 counties South in more empty lands, rifle is ok.
Makes sense, or it did to the DEC decades ago, but...
Absolutely, if you aim high a 30-30 will carry much further in a ballistic arc than a shotgun slug. So it's not a stupid rule, if people miss aiming up hill.
If the shot misses in a fairly level angle, much more likely, a high velocity rifle bullet will hit grass, and get "sucked" into the dirt quickly. A slug will skim along for hundreds of yards. Actually much further than a 30-06 would.
You can see the tracks at the local range easy, as the rifle range is gently sloped and pass though slugs on paper targets, ( sighting in & practice ) leave furrows all the way to the final berm 200+ yards out.
Also amusing is the Trap & Skeet houses are on one side of a huge field, ( On the clubhouse side ) and the Sporting Clays multiple angle traps are on the far side, tucked in/at the edge of, the woods, ( a long drive around ) actually facing back at the Skeet towers and Traps across a big empty field. The local deer have no fear of noises, and will be feeding out in the field, in the zone where the shot falls from both sides ( the club rules limit shot size to #6 & smaller iirc ) and you occasionally see one jump & run when the metal rain falls on them.
I remember a Forensic Files where a person with a 44 Magnum inadvertently killed someone 500 yards away.
Fired in the wrong direction with the right trajectory a 22lr is potentially deadly for hundreds of yards.
Hell, kids have inadvertently killed eachother with cheap airguns at close range. Don't be stupid.
It would be safe to assume that anything that penetrates people will penetrate house. I stick to what's known and proven to be most effective. "Trust the science." Isn't that what they say?
The FBI standards call for a foot to a foot and a half penetration, after shooting a hostage through a car window.
I might have some details mixed up with the Agency's performance vs. Ammo performance.
But 12-18 inches is reasonable, and the best ammo makers do a "police load" for shooting through cars and walls, and a "defense load" for shooting at threats not behind a wall or in a car. The reasoning is civilians probably aren't having gun fights with folk in automobiles, probably shouldn't, anyway. So the "defense" versions generally perform better at expansion ( aka immediate damage to Stop the fight ) and have less over-penetration.

Yep. You got it. Except the Trust part. Science works by Questioning the science.
Ballistic testing with gel blocks isn't prefect, but better than shooting cows or pigs for consistency. Critters aren't consistent. They have hard, soft, and hollow parts with various thickness and fluids.
repeatable experiments are easier with consistent media. You See the issues.
In real world reports... It varies a lot. As hunters should know, shot placement matters more than minor details of performance.
So go for tested and make your own judgment. My favorite load was discontinued, ( actually a few have... Remember Black Talon? ) but the newer stuff is better. I haven't tried the "screwdriver" type stuff, yet.
I still carry .45acp Hydrashock in my derringer. I know what it does on and through different materials. I prefer .454 Casull but the Ruger Super Redhawk is a little large for everyday.
I recently switched from JHP (Federal Guard Dog), to HST, in my EDC Hellcat.
Part of my personal 'training' - being 6'4" and taller than most of the population - is to practice shooting from a crouch so I'm not shooting (naturally) downward at an offender. If I shoot "up", my backstop ceases to be people and turns into (more likely) a wall, or a ceiling.
Which is another reason I keep a laser on my EDC - in a crouch, or from behind cover, it's easier to simply place dot / make hole, versus possibly struggling to get a traditional sight picture. I can reach around an obstacle, gun completely out of my line of sight...place the dot, pull the trigger, and make a hole.
yeah, pricing optics and irons now. I have my Hellcat's old Olight that I can use in a pinch - LED tac light with green laser.
I'm a lefty so...Stag Arms it is. Stag 15, 18", 5.56 NATO, Geissele trigger, Magpul furniture, PMAG mags...and a few other details that I forget at the moment. We were picking up Michelle's new Canik pistol and I figured "what the hell, I'll order a new toy too". I knew I had to go with Stag (lefty), and from there I went with the shop's advise. I trust these guys, they know how I shoot, and they know what works. Should be here Friday.
Harris is so bad at her job it scary. She's heading to Poland to "reassure" the Poles we have their back. With her as our rep, we could be at war with Poland in a week.

Sounds pretty good. For irons the Magpul Pro's or Troy Battlesights are good...if you want the best there's Knights but those are $$.
I'd go Aimpoint Pro or Eotech for a red dot...otherwise a low mag variable from Trijicon or Leupold is pretty good. I'm not a fan of the Chinese stuff no matter how good the warranty is. Go Phillipine at the bare minimum.
My .308 bolt action wears a Leupold. My Hellcat has Trijicon night sights along with a Viridian green laser. My XD-S also has a Viridian, with TruGlo night sights. I think I'm actually partial to the TruGlo's...bigger glow dots than the Trijicons. I know the quality difference...just a matter of finding one I like. I may go with some magnification on this one, since the 18" is designed to reach out and touch people (like the .308), where the handguns and the Mossberg pump are strictly close-quarters. The AR *could* be used for cqb....but at 18" it's a little lanky for that, especially when I have handgun options in the same safe.
