Get a better Blast battery. They use the Blast battery in twins. You can search for the same Blast battery, but a better quality and with more CCA’s. You shouldn’t have an issue using a Blast battery. Check your cables too. |

Battery is charged and good, I cleaned all the ground connections, still had starting issues. I added another ground and everything seems good now. Thanks for your help! |

Has anyone figured out how to put a x1 tach on a Blast? |

or maybe a s1 or s2 tach on a blast? |

A tach is generally simple to connect, but it reads differently because it’s made for a twin. You can a) convert to a twin ignition and the extra spark will fire at a moment that won’t make a difference. b) install a ‘pulse doubling device’. I don’t remember the exact name, but they do or did exist at one time. There is probably another way, but I only remember coming up with the 2. I have an X1 tach but never hooked it up. I completely forgot that when I went to a twin “wasted spark” ignition that the tach would’ve bolted right on!! (Thanks for reminding me) There’s at least one person out there that makes aluminum housing brackets for Buells, which might come in handy. They were on Facebook. I think my Nemesis “Buellistic” had an X1 or other twin tach on his. He’s been deceased for a few years now and I doubt the information on how he hooked it up is on Badweb. He really wanted you to beg him for information and then he would privately send it too you. You could also check out “Buell Riders Online” (BRO). I’m sure someone there has done it. |

I have a SE ignition that you can set to a2cyl mode. can I get away with just cutting another slot in the timing cup and is my coil going to handle the extra spark? |

Yes, you can do that. :-) |

Should I put a sportster coil on the blast? |

There’s no reason to change coils. |

Hi ya'all, I'm new to this group. I live in Montreal (Canada) and I have a 2008 Buell Blast. I love the bike but it seems like a never ending cycle of repairing things and seeking for parts to replace. A couple days ago it was my exhaust header that broke while riding the bike. Now, except for a 350$ full system (second hand) on ebay, there is no place where I can find a header/or the whole system for my bike for a fair price. Plus, there is no garage willing to work on my bike except Harley but they don't sell the parts I need and don't work with parts that haven't been bought there. Like I said, I really love the bike but it's getting harder and harder to get the parts I need and the whole thing is becoming a hassle. Help? Update : Browsing Ebay, I found this exhaust that seems to fit the bike... although I don't really trust it... https://www.ebay.com/itm/284314783334?fits=Model%3ABlast%7CMake%3ABuell&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item42327b4e66:g:47QAAOSwX1JfM2CN&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACgBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%252Fn%252BzU5L90Z278x5ickk7PdDazAlGltMLJlUhrWsDzyn%252BVGRn1K%252Ftgdwm1vNyUJnBLLBA2UP9wxC6WpbUwIMgtyQ16jgSXtNZKGhGogAiaY6BkKPTWQpiIDrgu9sl3IIWQM2orIDMOMf4OFp%252Bw8qC8fTecOg4PegLcFL9ehEESDBfnife4nvDqCG9zBP6A%252BzQLAMbULIq8DXYuqC25rga2rPTu1Oq2ZiQfWhxjLdQarX1O7v2fGbM8tDgvlMccOtNT9xXXe3GQDHJXSmaHavY0aGIOPcOczG%252Fhpybe3WCZWHoxc%252BAx3tpf0ocXDgDCoaHZXIp3Szem8Bgh60p8pKwGwFlxJYvdiCSWOp6ILWwI2olCiPLCrsbRCcyGg7UEu%252B0LV2RyNkl0RbO73cL%252BR%252FE%252FzF91LISjcD5h69cXRXafqqjtyAMXJpxUjMdc7Cq8G1ro1FySWaPHKfpOfewu8iJZ2F4sJq%252B2MQ%252F99swOKRqjmUpRVmsJvJlF%252BxXCuhUhchid13ZI6c2Gd5wIGE4kuKofprTT1WOP4M0zDJrjhqcIzFTMu0H3yvrM6X8Sh8GBkKPiVfyitl9%252BAOG%252FTXOJo069Loc%252FSEf2R1y294%252Fv7v2Z209PSkGS60cN2jHAcwWi%252BRuM8i12sZ%252F%252B8eZT3w0GgSjEzLNLoJUW48l%252BStgIvVZ0YgN4rEPT4ToRsQZVRgf3bsCj1F%252BH5O5fCdBkKxIUoHly%252BV0FMSd%252F2csKo3uLdRZYrVkAReX4S2ifIQIA4rLmjoUZEjEKbuZSH0Ngjwa6QBAUGT2kVC8YrqpBvjqNrnk%252FNx6FfnKmXjEscZPcdT3JM%253D%7Ccksum%3A284314783334f73f925e975e4f9193e6cdfd7e80843d%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524 (Message edited by Dfulle on June 01, 2021) |

finally getting my blast dialed in with the sportster carb and xb setup. accel pump is still too hot. cooking with a 44/140 4 shims and the accel bleed hole drilled out to 1mm. starting to swap out some bolts for titanium. |

It’s usually a lot easier to disconnect the accelerator pump and make it run right. It just dumps too much fuel But congratulations on progress :-) :-) |

when I first put the sportster carb on it almost came right back off. but I wanted the manual choke and accel pump because my blast would lean out when you grab alot of throttle at idle and lower rpms. at first my blast was pig rich 10.5:1 wot up top with 1-2 shims and a 44/165. but slightly lean at cruise but just right at idle. took a while but the more shims I added the better the cruise got but I kept having to pull main. pulliing pilot had me turning 5-6 turns out on the idle mix screw. 44 is about 3-4 depending on weather. and I get some nice overrun pops. the accel pump is almost dialed in now. it no longer falls on its face from being stoopid rich. another drill size up for the leak hole will likely get me where it needs to be. with the main being so low I'm glad I have the accel pump. I'm gonna see what 2 more degrees of timing does for me to get me 30 degrees total advance all in at 5k rpm and up. small steps. test tune repeat. |

I hadn’t any trouble using the carb with the accel pump disconnected. The throttle response was there without hesitation and it screamed once it hit 5k! I used the same recommendations/settings as a Blast carb. I also had the luxury of a dyno at my disposal 😃 I’m not saying I disagree with your efforts, just sharing mine. |

oh no arguments here. sharing our knowledge and experience is super helpful to everyone going down similar paths. I'm always VERY hesitant to share any jetting or carb settings as everyone's setup is unique and I don't want anyone blowing up their setup using a 140 main just because I am. timing could be different, float bowl level different. all kinds of variables. Hell, If I didn't have the wideband I wouldn't have even thought to jet that low. I also JB welded an airflow venturi nipple similar to what is found on the xb airbox inside my cone filter. I dont think I've seen anyone doing that. |

I am starting to look for my nephew's blast to get more power. As I recall an ab9 piston, jug and front cylinder is the best course. Can I use xb12 head with the xb9 piston and jug? Would an 04+ harley 1200r front head work as well or only buell parts? Are cams from an xb9 a good choice as well? or an xb12? I know I will only use 2. Can anyone suggest jetting? Thanks RR |
