Court, is there any way to track down the ownership of the 50 1987 Buell 1000 RR's. I know that Deven Battley has #1. I have #34.Harley has one, Barber has two. There is one in New Zealand, one in Italy.....Razz |

Yes . . . yes . . . I am reminded by one of the Senior Elves that #6 is still sitting in his office . . . . I think it has 5 or 6 miles on it. |

The bike the Devin Battley , the man who introduced Eric to the HD executives on the cruise, is #1 of the 50. Bruse H. "Fuzz" Terreson was a HD dealer in Reading Pa.. He purchased the bike new from Howell's HD in New Kingstown Pa.,was a Buell dealer,in October of 1989.Howell had two of the RR1000's and it's my understanding that the sister bike set records at the salt flats |

Correct - 1987
quote:In 1987, Devin Battley smuggled Erik Buell onto a cruise ship for the Harley-Davidson annual dealer's meeting. Battley told Harley-Davidson then-CEO, Vaughn Beals, that Buell could give the company a performance image with no risk to Harley. They set up a table for Buell to speak with dealers and by cruise-end he had deposits and orders for 25 motorcycles.

I have some of the original . . . drawn on paper . . .blueprints and drawings from the original bike. The bike was amazing . . the fact that so many of the individual components were meticulously designed and fabricated, either in the barn or in places (in the case of the front calipers) by outside fabricators. . . .is even more amazing.Any chance I could get copy's |

Does anyone have any knowledge of recent sales of a RR1000 or RR1200? Always looking and checking values!} |

Some sales . . .there are few . . . are kept pretty quite and off the internet. I'll never talk about tone again. Last year I brought the news of one for sale here to the internet and took a driving over folks' opinion of the selling price. They chance hands from time to time. The most recent when the owner passed away. My first chance at an RR1200 was from a bank in a small town that had repossessed it and had no clue what they had. I suspect the actual number in existence is a bit different than many may think. |

I had mine in a show, this year, and was told anywhere from 50 thousand and up, depending on the condition etc.. It also depends on how you sell it, private or one of the BIG auction houses and how they present the bike. They will only keep advancing up as time goes buy. 1987 RR1000 number 34 with 38 original miles is mine. (Message edited by 87buell1000 on October 31, 2016) |

>>>>was told anywhere from 50 thousand and up I certainly can't dispute it but . . . at least to date . . . that would be a record high sales price. I've been involved in the sale of a couple and there are some things that influence the price ranging from someone, as in your case, who died and the family simply wants to get rid of it. In some cases, as in one I ran into, they had no idea what it was worth and were thrilled to get $7,000. But . . . . like the 10 cases of Buell crud I have laying around here . . . there ain't anymore of them being made and time and tide favor the long term collector. In my case . . . . I've no intention of selling anyway so price, beyond making certain things are properly insured, is irrelevant. The highest and best use of the "Barn Buells" . . and this is largely my personal opinion . . is as art. I used to always have one of them with the bodywork off of just to frickin' look at. I'd take a soft cloth and keep the frame tube and every bit of the bike perfectly clean. A good friend keeps one in his office . . . . with something like 6 miles on it . . .and it's the RR1000 equivalent to Mike's 1996 S1 Lightning that has 0 miles on it. Incredible bikes . . incredible art. Somewhere I have the original photos for when Henry Werth (who was watching while I nearly reduced the world population of RR1200's by 1) displayed at the Chicago Field Museum. It was, in my thinking, the first time a Buell had been displayed as "pure art". It would have happened again had BMW . . who'd put up $2,000,000 to sponsor The Art of The Motorcycle, not taken offense to featuring Buell in the rotunda of The Guggenheim. Great memories. |

"Incredible bikes . . incredible art." I've more than once thought about draining all the fluids and "mounting" my S1W or S2 upright on a wall. Maybe when I get too old to ride them (if that ever happens) (Message edited by lake_bueller on October 31, 2016) |

Haha . . . . I have what is, arguably, one of the most historically significant Buells sitting here . . . I start it once every couple months (which as K12Pilot can attest is quite an event) run it till it's good and hot and let'er sit. It's going no where. The tires are checked and cracked . . the new set has been sitting, still packaged up, next to the bike for a year . . . and someday I may threaten to ride it. |

I agree with you Court, the RR1000's & the RR1200's are art worthy of displaying. When I bought my bike from Fuzzy he was happy that I was going to show the bike. He also knew that the bike was not going up for sale. Serious collectors are finally starting to look at Buell . When mine was in the show's, people would ask me what it was cause most never ever saw one before. |

This thread has been quite a treat. In 1991 I was taking my new Electra Glide Sport in for it's 1000 mile service and while waiting I was checking out this Buell thing! Dale Walksler walked over and asked if I'd like to ride it. Well, I didn't have anything else to do so sure! I just remember it was an iron head 4 speed that was geared really tall! When I went into an on ramp for the interstate I saw the curve and the bike was already leaning! It made quite an impression on me. Having a 37" inseam made it really tough to justify a purchase but I really did like it. I don't know what # it was, it was just fun! Knowing Dale, he probably still has it! |

My RR1200 is coming along slowly. Not sure what number it was but the sale note is dated 24 October 1989 and calls it a 1990 model. Once it’s finished I will be using it on some track days and bike club events for demonstration, not proper racing.
