I have the upgraded thicker intake seals from St Paul. Cometic is still shipping the small ones. I think this time I will try something new. Since the manifold decided to rub into one of my heads a little and this shouldn't hurt...i will be putting this stuff to work. Rubber Gasket Dressing https://www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/gasket -sealants/permatex-permashield-fuel-resistant-gask et-dressing-flange-sealant/ |

Do not use any sealants on the intake manifold. The area where the manifold flange touches the head isn’t a sealing area, it’s only where the seal contacts the head. The manifold needs to able to move within the intake seal. As the engine warms up and cools down the intake manifold moves within the intake seal. Need to remember that the heads will move away from each other and back together as the engine heats and cools. If you’re seeing witness marks on the head of consistent air passing through between the head and the intake seal or intake seal is getting sucked in underneath the manifold use the blue or purple colored cosmetic intake seal that has a lip built into it to seal the end of the intake to the head not just the sides of the intake. |

If you wanna try something new this is the only solution works properly https://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?53975 -High-performance-intake-manifold-flanges-for-2008 -2010-Buell-XB (Message edited by TPEHAK on August 13, 2021) |

When probably installed the standard in seals will last a long time. You need to install the manifold, carb or TB and the carb support with snug not tight bolts. Once all the parts are lined up straight then go back and tighten the intake. To many people try to install the manifold first and tighten it down all the way and then nothing will line up properly, then you’ll have intake leaks along with back firing leading to burnt intake seals. |

Its been a long time since the last time but I likely did it that way. This be the forth time putting them on. Here is one side looks normal Rubbed edge from 1 - 5 oclock. Lucky just a rub mark on the head and nothing under a machine ruler so no damage on the head. When I clean the surface the mark will be gone. Ill clean up the manifold with a file and straiten the manifold to head clearance before torquing the heads down. The valves were inspected. The Exh valve seats were shiny and looked perfect. The Intake seats were dull with only some light pitting. I lapped the valves a little and they are all right on still with a solid seal. Im alright with the bigger intake seals. Pistons and Cyl. Im only using a telescoping bore gauge and read around 3 thou on the 45k cylinders. The piston measurement was impressive and was about the same as the 5000 mile pistons. Still for sale. I am installing some 5000 miles cyl that looked like they were raced a little. Still they are only at about .001 thou My 45k cyl have less horizontal lines and no signs of plating break down. Still for sale. One last thing. I am finally going to install a catch can for the breathers. There was a small coating on the intake valves to clean off.
