First ride of the year, rode the bike from my winter storage location to my apartment. Everything was fine. Then, next day, the engine would idle for a few seconds, then it would peter out. Replaced the battery, spark plugs, and reset the TPS, but still no luck. Battery cables not in perfect shape, but no measurable difference in voltage between the battery and the starter. Not seeing any trouble codes in ECM spy either. Engine will keep running if I give it some throttle, but revs are all over the place and will backfire through the intake. Any help on diagnosing the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Maybe fuel delivery issue. It can be clogged injectors, or bad fuel pump, bad fuel pressure regulator, damaged fuel line, leaking fuel line seals, clogged fuel filters. The fuel delivery issue below injectors can be diagnosed with fuel pressure gauge. Find and read electrical manual for troubleshooting. If you reset TPS then you have something to control and monitor the ECM. Make sure you set AFV to 100% after replacing spark plugs and resetting TPS. Also observe the TPS value in the program you use and see if it is within the limits when the throttle is closed and if it changes consistent and smooth without spikes when you twist the throttle along the throttle moving range. You can find throttle angles limits in electrical manual. If the TPS value is not within the limits when throttle is closed or if TPS value has spikes or dead zones when you twist the throttle then the TPS is bad. How do you set the AFV to 100%? Mine is saying 115.3 for Front and Rear on the live feed, but doesn't seem like it allows for edits. |

Wandering idle RPM, backfiring through the intake, and an AFV of 115 would seem to indicate an intake leak. Might do to check for that. Hope this helps, Dave |

AFV of 115 means the ECM is commanding 15% more fuel. Yes this can be a intake leak or leak at or upstream of the O2 sensor. Intake seals is a good place to start, leak or loose O2 sensor, exhaust manifold leak on rear cylinder exhaust seal, bad O2 sensor, bad engine temp sensor located on top of rear cylinder, bad intake air temp sensor, leaking rear cylinder injector. Bad ECM . I would replace intake seals, while throttle body is out I would have fuel injectors clean then put back in with new injector O rings. |
