My S3 taillight bulbs are 1157 but do not work in my S2. The Buell part number for the Buell S2 is 68075-94Y. What is the common old school bulb number that I can buy at the local auto parts store? |

Should be the 1157 as both models use the same tail light. |

Ya, that’s what I thought. The 1157 bulbs that are in my S3 won’t work in my S2 but the bulbs look ground down on the connection terminals. I’ll buy some new 1157 bulbs and give them a go. |

Good chance it could just be your tail light. I've gone through 2 OEM tail lights and had pretty regular problems with both. I think the metal tangs wear down and aren't pressing on the bulb well. I could mess around with mine and it would work, but usually by the time I got where I was going it would be out again. After a little bit of that I was always just paranoid I didn't have a tail light. I ended up replacing it with a cheap ebay LED light. It's not as bright as I'd like, and 20% of the light doesn't work anymore, but at least I know it's on. I also put on some turn signals that have a built in brake light function as well, so if my tail light would happen to go, I know I've still got brake lights. I have a Ulysses tail light(LED) sitting on a shelf, long term plan is to fit that on my S1 eventually to permanently resolve the problem, but it's shaped a little different so I haven't messed with it yet. |

The new 1157 bulbs did the trick. |

I cut up a used Ulysses LED taillight that I had laying around, and put the LED board in my S2's taillight housing. Drilled holes where the factory lens screws went through the backing plate and installed longer screws with nylock nuts, and never had to touch it again until Bambi jumped out in front of me in '18, totalling the bike. |

Rat, The question has been answered. Nice that you shoehorned that into your S2 but how is this related to the topic? |

Just offering as an alternative, that's all. I guess I'll stop trying to help folks out with information. |

Or, maybe I should just take a breath and before I post the first thing that comes to mind. Keep posting Rat. |

Haha I thought it was a very useful comment. I think he might've been replying more to my post than yours. Rat, did it go together pretty well? I still have my old tail light and would be interested in trying that. The Uly tail light looks ok on my S1, but the back of it isn't flat, since it was made to fit inside that odd shaped Uly tail, so I had to make an adapter piece. It looks far from oem. I wouldn't mind fitting the LEDs in my stock housing and tossing that back on the bike. |

Yeah, it fit nicely. I took the circuit board completely out of the Uly light assembly, and mounted the bare board in place of the stock S2 socket assembly. There's an old thread here on it somewhere... Keep in mind, the S2 light is COMPLETELY different than an S1/M2 light...but you might be able to do the same circuit-board-only install there, too. Possibly. Not sure on the final dimensions... |

Ah, you're right. I took a look at some pictures and the S1 light is much smaller. I don't think I'd be able to fit this one in there. Now that I see the shape of the S2 tail light I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that thread about it a while back. |

I think the S2 taillight was shared with some Moto Guzzi. I think the taillight from the XB was shared with some Moto Guzzi (Stone?) models also. (image taken from one of 1313's posts)
