Hi everyone, it's been quite a while since I've been on this forum and I can use some assistance with some basic maintenance. I need some help after adjusting the clutch on my '06 Uly. I followed the instructions in my service manual - loosened the adjuster mechanism and added free play; removed clutch inspection cover, spring and lockplate; turned the adjusting screw counterclockwise until it lightly bottomed then came back clockwise about 1/3 of a turn; set free play and reassembled. Now my clutch disengages as soon as I start pulling the clutch lever. I much prefer it to disengage about half way through the clutch lever pull. What did I do wrong? Should I just repeat the process or is there something I should do differently? I've owned the bike since new and have about 12,000 miles on it. Everything is pretty much stock on it. The mileage is so low because of several reasons including travel for work and a medical condition that keeps me from riding due to balance issues most days. I still like to get out on the good days though. |

If you followed the instruction there is nothing wrong. You can loosen the clutch ramp screw slightly more if you want to shift the friction zone further. But I would not do that because of if there will be some clutch drag during gear shifting it will accelerate the gears dogs wear. (Message edited by TPEHAK on March 30, 2021) |

There is another adjustment for the cable length inside the rubber piece on the cable in front on the front cylinder. |

When you re-set the freeplay with the cable housing adjuster, how much freeplay did you leave? I think that the manual calls for about 3mm. |

1.6-3.2 mm for Buell XB and 3.6-4.6 mm for Ulysses |

Thanks gents - I followed the instructions, but I liked how the clutch felt better before I did the work. I adjusted cable length by loosening the adjustment mechanism under the rubber piece in front of the front cylinder. Freeplay was reset at approx 1/8" I think I will go through the process one more time to se if I get the same results. Maybe I missed something... |

Since it worked before that should rule out the broken primary cover syndrome. Any chance you don’t know your own strength and are turning the screw in too far initially before backing out 1/3 rd? Could account for a quick clutch maybe. |
