Getting confused with all the software posts. Let's cut to the chase. I want to diagnosis my X1 check engine light that has been coming on & off every so often What software do I download to my phone or laptop and what cable do I need? I have used Tune ECU on my Triumph so I'm familiar with doing this, but not sure what I need for a 2000 X1. Advice appreciated |

Should be info in the service manual to read the light flashes and decipher the code. Other than that I use the old free ecm spy that probably cant be found or down loaded anymore. I am sure the new version would work fine for you. You just need a cable. LMK I can sell you a brand new cable. |

Dont have the USB cable after all Im sorry about that. https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/895-TTL-232R- 5V/ Also the plug and pins wires are needed for the other end. Maybe someone here can supply you a cable. the install drivers and instructions. (Message edited by victory on February 28, 2021) |

You'll need to jumper two pins together at the ecm port. Look in Knowledge Vault. There are four pins in the port, then after the correct two pins are jumpered you count the number of times your light flashes on your dash. It's a xxx number with a pause between each number. Pretty simple way to find the code then plug that number into the internet for code problem. More than likely it's either an o2 sensor or a rear cylinder overtemp sensor. |

I would buy this in a second if I needed one. https://shop.ecmcables.com/tuning-cables/buell-cab les/Buell-E-Class-Black-ECM-Programming-Spy-Cable- TPS-Reset-ECMSpy This has a newer better chipset and will work with newer computers. BUY IT. |

Another good place. http://idspd.com/xcart/?target=main They were flashing up your ecm to race ecm for around $100 a year ago. Dont see why they wouldnt do it now too. But if you learn how to use ecm spy you can do it yourself. |

I'm trying to use a samsung tablet to connect to the ECM. This tablet has no USB port so I used a USB C to USB converter to the cable. I cannot open ECMSPY on my tablet, but can open ECMDROID, but still can't connect. Will ECMDROID work or I need to stick with ECMSPY? Was able to open ECMSPY on my daughters laptop but still can't connect. Any thing else I need to download? |

Oops, the driver for the cable needs a window or mac based system, correct? |

I use Windows. Don't forget to "turn on the keys" to activate ECMspy. |

I've done both ECMSPY and ECMDROID on my '99X1. I got the Buelltooth gadget and have an old dedicated android phone for this. I like that setup a lot. But ECMSPY has a better layout. I think ECMSPY needs a Windows version that IS NOT 10, maybe 7. |

Frustrating. Tried to use a windows 7 pc, but I don't think I'm getting the right driver for the cable. Can't connect. The ecmspy software is good, but cannot make the connection when the bike is running or not. Where do I get the wireless dongle that I can use with ecmdroid that I installed on my android tablet? |

Hell, what's another $50 to spend on another tool for a Buell. Ordered |

That worked. Was able to use my android tablet and connect to the wireless dongle via blue tooth. Was able to see the error codes and clear them. Not as visually friendly as ECMSPY, but ECMDROID worked. |

Well mine doesn't work anymore either even on a win 7 laptop and I install and configure software all the time. I cant remember what the conclusion was. Possible dead chip. I would have pressed their support channels about ECM Spy. I really miss it on the laptop. My Palm version is still working. If any of you want to really go for a trip. New Palm TX are still on ebay. I have the Palm ecmspy software if you want to try that out. |
