Gamestop! The guys who get rich by betting in the Market Casino are furious! The whole story is complex, so to do your own research. A few thoughts. The Hedge funds that went bankrupt did so by betting a company will fail, that's fine, anyone can think, say, hypothetically PepsiCo is going to lose money with a bad choice, say Mt. Dew Pork flavor,  and sell the stock. But the bets the Hedge funds made were with money they didn't have. So, like in Vegas, their legs got broken. ( figuratively ) Your bets, buying and selling, are with money that you earned. You may go broke, but not suddenly find yourself owing millions. That's the nature of the "Short" bets that pay off big for some. Cheating! Nope. Just rules that are written so the smart guys can make money. Feel free to argue that. So what? Rich dude gambled and lost, fair enough. But real people, not elite aristocrats, got a hit too. If their portfolio had these hedge fund companies that bet & lost, they lost too. That's also true if they have stock in a company that has problems, ( headline: riots in Tehran over Infidel Soft Drink ) ... So now the Wall Street is freaking out and demanding an insane level of surveillance & restrictions on "social media" and investment. Interesting times. | ||

Not many avg Joe's have hedge funds in their portfolios. In fact, most 401ks prohibit those types of funds. And thank goodness for that. | ||

I enjoyed the whole Wallstreetbets anti hedge fund shorting thing as a fantastic "Question Authority" experiment. While they generally fail because the authorities already in place have better practical experience and are more familiar with the existing infrastructure, when the authorities fail, even partially, fascinating new opportunities, and new risks suddenly emerge. | ||

Don't think I don't like good teachers. I admire and we need them. We don't need this. Also, kids are filthy little germ factories, so I completely understand the fear that as we relax hygiene pushes in late 2024 ( to create the illusion that Harris* is doing a great job, perhaps ) the staff at Big Government Schools will get hit with waves of influenza, Covid-19, and other, deadlier, diseases from Communist China and other Communist occupied lands, like Africa and S. America and Mexico. ( not all are currently fatally infected today. But next year? ) The People's Republic of California in particular is beginning to incubate medieval plagues that we haven't seen since Pasteur. We may need a Border Wall or Death Drones to stop the carnage. Fortunately, much of the Borderlands are sparsely populated so seeding the lands with Eridium may help... Or is that the video game? Hard to tell.  ( joke. It's not that easy ) Jokes about mass murder aside, if we can't have neighborhood Superbowl parties we certainly can't have multi neighborhood gatherings of immature Karens creating our curriculum or children gathered in poorly ventilated multi neighborhood groups. Iran is bankrupt, isolated and roundly despised by most of the countries in the Middle East. Now America is doing its best to resuscitate the most radical and anti-American regime in the world — at the expense of our allies in the Arab world, Israel and America's own interests. | ||
