I was on here about 2 months back asking about the XB bikes being I was in the market for one after being in a wreck. Well, in the end I decided to fix my bike and wait on the XB till I got a better job. Haven't yet, but hoping to soon. My questions are how is the reliability doing now and how bad is insurance for a 21 going on 22 year old in florida? I've been out of the loop for a bit and wondered how they're doing. I'm seeing lot's more of them in my area (central) and am getting the bug bad now. |

I hate to say it but insurance on these bikes suck. A buddy of mine who is a little younger than you was looking at the XB and was going to get it, until he got the insurance quote. He only looked at one company, but it was high enough to discourage him from looking any farther. As far as reliability goes I think the testimonials all over this site are more than enough. Not to many people have had really bad problems with these things. |

The bikes are rock solid and insurance can be found at a reasonable rate. If you contact a Harley-Davidson insurance rep, they will shop around for you and find the best deal. However, at your age, insurance on larger displacement motorcycles is gonna be a bitch. |

Prices can be all over the map between insurers as well. I think some just decide to get out of certain categories of bikes all together, and just set some goofy high price to bail. |

It also depends on your state and county as well...turns out, if I lived in Union county, approx. 6 miles away, my insurance would have been much much lower. Of course you will experience lower quotes if you have the following as well: 1. Certificate of motorcycle safety class completion 2. A Motorcycle endorsement on your license 3. Over 30 years old..(I am not) 4. My insurance company gave a BRAG discount. PS: My insurance rate still blows...but I love the XB enough to offset the cost edited by jasonxb12s on June 08, 2004 |

I've got 13,000 miles on mine. Reliability is very good. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one on that point. I'm 34, no tickets, live in a crappy neighborhood and I pay $372 a year for full coverage with a $500 deductible. |

I live in South Florida, 24 turning 25 end of this month. I got my bike about 6 weeks ago. My insurance right now is $440 a month. When I turn 25 it drops to under $100. I got better quotes, around $180 a month, but I would have been locked in for a year. So I took the hit for 2 months. |

Daveinm, Did you really mean a month? Cataract2, I just got my xb12r 2 weeks ago. I live in Orlando and I'm paying $550.00 a year. The guys at Orlando HD got me hooked up with an agent from Palm Beach. Also, if you look in the archives someone was talking last wee about a new insurance company that was saving them a bunch of money. |

Yeah...I mean $440 a month. It was actually gonna be $490 for the coverage I wanted. It's ridiculous. Progressive wanted $1800 for the year, but I would have been locked in for the year. Didn't make sense since it drops end of this month when I turn 25. It doesn't make any sense. The day before I turn 25 I am less responsible...so they need to charge me an extra $350. I HATE INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!! |

Doesn't sound like the right thread to ask about that. I wouldn't expect an answer. |

Cataract2-- There was a thread about this very topic not too long ago, including some good Florida info. If I knew how, I'd direct you to it because it had the answers you're probably looking for. When I moved from Orlando to Fort Myers my auto insurance went up about 15%. Still, to insure my XB12R down here runs under 600/year w/MSF class. I used Pete Lazko and he placed me with I think American Home. Several other Florida riders chimed in on that thread about using Pete so I guess he's got a good rep... |
