I have never replaced the drive belt on my S2 and I am thinking I am living on borrowed time with over 100,000 Kms on it. There are a few belts on Ebay for under $200 and I wanted to buy the best belt available. Is there a part number or brand that is better than one or the other? |

Contact belt drives ltd. You can get a better than stock belt for less than $200.00 I bought one of their carbon fiber belts for my xb years ago and couldn't be more pleased. Matt http://beltdrives.com/ |

I was looking for someone to tell me the inside scoop on the best (strongest) belt available for the S2. I know the Ulysses that I had changed the belt on had a specific part number in which the majority of the XB owners agreed was the strongest. Is the stock belt the best or is an aftermarket belt better? It looks like both you and I don’t have that information. |

Hello Loose, is this just your gut feeling or are you thinking because they say it has has Kevlar in the belt, it is stronger? |

S2 is the easiest tuber to change a belt on. Just don't use rinky dink Allen wrenches on the side plate- use a proper hex key allen socket on a ratchet or better yet, an impact, to get them off initially. Put a rear stand under the swingarm and a jack under the back of the motor to support it and realign it with the sidestand pin when putting it all back together. Can be done in about 20 min. |

Thanks, Phelan but I am not asking how to change it. I am asking is there a better brand or upgraded part number of the belt. |

If properly install the old style belt will last 60-100k. The biggest reason I would see them fail is over tightening the belt. Tube frame belts will look sloppy loose once installed correctly not tight like the XB bikes. |

651lance, Thank you for your opinion of the maximum belt life and reason you think they break. In this post I was looking for neither opinions. I would simply like to know if there was a better brand or original part number for the S2 drive belt. Clearly stated in my opening post, I have over 100,000 Kms on the belt (and over 20 years of use) so I would think I should change it based on the age alone. I have owned a few tubers and XB bikes plus 100 + other motorcycles and I have changed quite a few belts and chains over the years. Not my first time to the rodeo. |

Hi Ted, didn't look at the name first . To answer your question, I don't particularly think there is a better option than a new OEM belt. Some people have used the 04-10 XB belt, but the extra rubber compound in them really needs a tensioner, as otherwise it can jump teeth in the tuber "scary loose" tension. |

American Sport Bike recommended the 06 XB belt for X1 Owners. It had the new Goodyear technology that was very new back then. if you were too careless and set it too loose it would jump a tooth on your test ride near your drive way. No big deal just back to the garage to adjust a little tighter. I thought this belt a had a few more teeth but I have been corrected. It doesnt. (Message edited by victory on November 25, 2020) |

Victory, the 06 standard wheelbase XB belt is the same number of teeth as the tuber, and same pitch, width etc (128 tooth, 1 1/8" width). It is the long wheelbase Buell that uses a 135 tooth variant. |
