Check the rear shock and the mounting points for cracks. I’ve always thought tillers were neat bikes! | ||

The Widow-Maker! Beautiful bikes, I've always loved them. Suzuki was killing it back around 2000 with the gorgeous bikes. Make sure you give us an update after you get some time on it how it feels compared to the Buells, and how it makes them feel after you've gotten used to this one. | ||

Will do, going through it now, fluids, wheel bearings, clutch, brake pads, tires, etc. I will be sure to put a little more scrutiny when inspecting the rear shock mounting points. I understand the progressive linkage design was considered controversial back then, but they kept it for the entire production. I also have an 03 RC51, which I ride pretty regularly. I get plenty of seat time between it and the S1W. Two different animals, I always feel "satisfied" when I get back from a ride on the Buell, much more visceral feel than the Honda which has more of a intuitive feel to it. I will keep you posted, btw the S2 restore should be a "roller" after the holiday and possibly completed by spring 2021. Thanks Gents. (Message edited by kc_zombie on November 24, 2020) | ||

I was thinking about the RC51 when I was responding before. If I had to pick a normal sportbike that I wanted, an RC51 would be up near the top of the list. I've always loved the TLRs, but I think for me I'd probably for a TLS with some normal handlebars on it. I'd even love one of the original SV650S's to use as a regular daily commuter. I believe the rear suspension was what gave the TLR it's widowmaker nickname. I don't remember if it was an issue with parts breaking, or just something to do with the overall handling. | ||

They used an unusual rotary shock that had very little oil in it. As the oil would heat up the damping would go away. Thought you were joking until I saw it was a TL. They never sold it in those colors over here (Europe) as far as I know. Looks absolutely excellent, you're right to be pleased. |
