I installed a Timesert oil pan repair insert in the oil drain in my swingarm.When I try to install the drain plug with a new o-ring the o-ring deforms itself out from under the drain plug long before the plug gets tight.Any thoughts? | ||

Drill a hole in the plug head for safety wire, use treat sealant on the plug according service manual, hand tighten the plug not to squish the o-ring excessively, install safety wire. The time-sert probably does not have the clearance needed for the o-ring. It is probably designed to use a flat, soft metal washer. Copper and aluminum sealing washers are available. When torqued, they seal the drain and also provide some locking force on the screw. | ||

You could also use an 82 degree countersink and countersink the time-sert so the o-ring has a place to go. | ||

Use an aluminum or copper crush washer and the Buell recommended thread sealant. Between the two the drain plug will not leak. I torque the drain bolt(s), to 12lb/ft. Never had one leak, loosen or fall out.... | ||

I bought a plug with a larger diameter sealing face,a brass washer and Permatex high temp sealer.We'll see how it works out. |
