I'm a former '09xt blue Uly and '10 police Uly owner. (My original username still works!) After selling them I didn't do as much riding anymore and ended up with a Harley Ultra for the past 8 years or so to enjoy with my wife on short trips. Finally did a solo cross country trip and back again this year on the Ultra and really made me miss my Uly and a V-strom I before them. The lighter bike, nimbleness, and no chrome to worry about crossed my mind quite a bit over 8500 miles. I came across this ad for a Uly in Oregon, I live in California, (formerly a Wisconsin resident) and am curious what to look out for when finding the rare Uly in 2020. I'm shorter so the XT is really the only choice. When I traded in my old xt for the police Uly back in 2010 I eventually regretted it as the height made a difference. Using this ad as an example what are the things to watch out for that have needed replacing or will need it etc. It's been really nostalgic revisiting this board and even advrider again. That looks like a good bike. Doesn't look like any modifications were done to it, and it has the bags. I don't know about the $4900, but it seems to fit your requirements. | ||

i got an 06 uly a couple years ago and i love it. saw a 10 for sale locally, it got sold fast so i got online and found a near new 09. there are XT springs available on Ebay, and some lowering kits. I searched out the best $ and lowest miles I could come up with. front isolaters are supposed to be hard to find, but i havent had issues. consumable items, frame pucks, throttle cables and such i have stoked up on when i could. im loving my new 09! | ||

Pictures look good, stock condition and in nice shape. Dealer details seem to be taken from an ‘06 X introduction but they can’t be faulted for that. Still, you really need to go see it and ride it in person. Shows a lot of promise. | ||

Thanks for the input. That's really encouraging there are some good intact Uly's out there still and riders are able to keep them updated. Good to know maybe just going the route of a lowering kit or xt shocks is a possibility. One thing I don't remember as well is on the XT the seat height is listed as 30.7 in. on some info I've found. Is that correct? I don't remember it being lower than my old v-strom which was about 32in. Always felt about the same height if not taller. Will an XT shock alone bring a standard Uly down to that 30.7 seat height? | ||

If you decide to look at it, be sure to look for signs of the rocker gaskets leaking. My eyes may deceive me, but that looks like a rear tire mounted on the front. Otherwise, as others have pointed out, it looks pretty unmolested, with enough miles on it to hopefully have had any bugs worked out. Looking at the pictures, it likely has the following upgrades going for it:

Good to know about the comfort kit and bearings. I remember that was a big deal and glad to see this one should have those. If this one doesn't work out it's been encouraging to see them still out there. Would like to find an xt with lower miles here on the west coast, but would need to check this one out in person or have someone else check it out first. | ||

I’ve seen lower mileage bikes for less money, but this one looks clean. Front fender looks different, everything else looks stock. | ||

That's a clean bike. Ulysses, and especially XT's, are much harder to find here on the west coast. And the price is always higher, not really sure why. I wouldn't be too concerned about 27K miles. I bought my current 2009 XT with 41K miles and it's great. |
