I have a '09 Uly XT. When trying to start the bike, I hit the start button, it responds then quits. Does not fire up. I try again and it fires up normally. The weird thing it that this happens every time. It's like the battery is dead on the first try, then everything is fine on the second try. Battery is two years old and fully charged. Quirk or something else? | ||

High compression engine. Battery is not brand new. Solutions: 1. Put bike in second gear and roll backwards before starting. OR: 2. Buy brand new battery every 6 months. OR just: 3.Get in habit of pushing starter button just long enough to increase engine compression. Immediately release button and engine will reverse rotation from stored up compression in cylinder. Quickly push starter button back in and engine will have enough momentum to over come the compression stroke. I do number 3 and no one even notices I let off the button | ||

Worst thing to do is to keep holding the button in with the engine not rotating. | ||

You also can try LiFePo4 battery, they deteorate slower. | ||

What Ourdee says. Need to roll the engine back so the starter can get the flywheels rotating before the compression occurs. | ||

I like LiFePo4 if there is a kick starter for back up. I use the kick starter in cold weather (non Buell bike). | ||

Get the battery checked. It should have plenty of life left for the riding mower. | ||

problem solved. I installed a new Shorai battery. It starts right up on the first try, just like it should. | ||

The Shorai needs the lights turned on for 5 minutes + in very cold weather to warm up and make enough power for starting. | ||

During winter my bike is parked in 35 to 40 degree garage on a cold morning. I've never had to do anything special to get it to start with a Shorai battery. Yes, it turns over more slowly, but did so with a lead-acid batter too. | ||

Shorai at 20 below 0 F I would kick start the bike. At 20 above I had to turn on the lights for 5 minutes to warm the battery. this was on a TW200 with a Shorai rated higher than the stock lead acid battery. | ||

In slightly below zero temperatures, I had to kick start my Suzuki, even with a lead acid battery. |
