Meanwhile, my minivan blew a power steering hose, and if I want it fixed before winter, I'm doing it myself. Because car repair shops are under staffed. By "law" aka the Whims of Cuomo. And it's wise to chose vacation destinations by Leftist Ideology. Otherwise you need to quarantine and check in daily with the Masters if you return to the Imperial State. I admit to the perverse desire to fill the back of my vehicle with Florida souvenirs, cross the PA border repeatedly to get breakfast, lunch and dinner & return wearing different messages on my mask, to check reactions. | ||

But in a bizzaro world way, correct. I'll just go with the time binding aspect. If you read Kipling, and learned some historical context, part of "Civilization" to a European / English / Industrial Age man, is time regimentation. A "proper time" for work, lunch, worship, sex, etc. which can be traced back through medieval monastaries, Roman Empire, etc. Etc. And mass production of time pieces meant that following the clock in your routine was no longer only in isolated locations. You were expected to be at work at a specific time, and thus were expected to have that technology/information, just as your employer was. Having a clock, later a watch, was a status symbol of class. (shifting from rich to poor as watches got cheaper ) A watch was a declaration you were a Time binding man. Responsible, mature. As is showing up to work on time. Thus you get the English Colonial Mythology of the lazy native.... Ironically because the Civilized city dweller locked to clock time, had lost the common sense of country people to work with the actual light & heat cycles of the day. Anyhooo, that's a culture clash that's real, but it's not ethnic. People living in a clock free / primitive society still expect everyone adult to follow time binding customs, it's just the numbers are then words. I also find it revealing that the objection to time binding is universal. Every adolescent, and who hasn't resented punching a time clock through life? That universality makes it an effective emotional button to push in propaganda/influencing. | ||

Unfortunately, I think it will take a massive "un-sheltering" for society. There are, because we live in a "good" time, no REAL tragedies to deal with at the moment so these children have no true frame of reference - like a world war, for instance. You know...death, true injuries, limbs removed by explosions, family members who never come home. Without TRUE problems...an entire generation is forced to make shit up that distresses them, and unfortunately society coddles them and validates that crap. Maybe because they're happy the kids DON'T have real problems like they did? Or maybe because they're just idiots, and it's the easy way out. | ||

As to "Identity" and the demands that we use preferred pronouns, a buddy has an attitude that might be worth considering. "I respect your delusions but do not share them." I can't completely grok the feelings of nice folk who are so uncomfortable with the bodies they are born with that they want to change it by drugs and surgery. I get a little glimpse because I've got some replacement parts installed to keep functional. They're how I can walk and see. And titanium knees aren't perfect replacements, but I had to settle. So maybe I should be more sympathetic to those who settle for highly imperfect means to be more comfortable in their own skin... even if the thought creeps me out... after all, the bald description of knee replacement surgery is basically "we saw your legs off, pound in some metal bits with a hammer, glue you back together, then release you tomorrow if you can totter around the ward with a walker and climb into & out of simulated car." That freaks out a lot of folk. Personally, at my age, if you could magically make me young and healthy, I don't care what gender I end up. Chris Evans or Scarlett Johansson would be fine. But switching sex organs with current technology? I'm not that curious or unhappy with my body. I maybe should be more comfortable with those who are, but it's not easy, since.... I don't share that problem. So I'm fine with Live and Let Live & Consenting Adults do as you please if it harm no other. You want obedience to rapidly changing social trends? Bite me. | ||
