For any of you running Amsoil, I noticed an apparent change on their website just now. I had been running their V-Twin 20W-50, which is what the owner’s manual recommends. That’s convenient because that’s also what I run in my Buell. I just ran the vehicle lookup at Amsoil to get their recommendation and they are now recommending Amsoil metric motorcycle 10W-40 or 15W-50 for EBR’s. Has anyone been running that oil? I’m a little leery of making the switch. |

Run the 15-50, and don't be concerned. I've run 15-50 Mobile 1 in all of my bikes, V-2 and 4cyl. for MANY years, as daily drivers (over 100,000 on a coupla bikes), with..ZERO oil related problems. I'm now retired, but I drove my bikes about 84 miles a day, rain (most) shine for over 30 years. No engine or clutch problems. Actually, have never had to change a clutch, even in the bikes that went over 100,000 miles. Mike |

I’ve been religiously running Amsoil Signature Synthetic in all my vehicles. Lately, after buying a new car that “requires” (yes, I’m familiar with the provisions of Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act if 1975) Mobil 1. I’ve, simultaneously, been growing weary of the Amsoil “tax” of having to pay an annual fee and delivery. I wonder what prompted their changed recommendations? |

I’m sure the minor viscosity change would make negligible difference. It would be interesting to see how much difference there is in an oil allegedly specifically engineered for big, air cooled slow revving V-twins with roller bearing bottom ends and an oil engineered for high revving sleeve bearing water cooled multi cylinder engines. For the time being I decided to stick with 20W-50 since i have a spare quart and a half and it’s what I run in the Uly. I’ve already got several oddball partial quarts of oil left over from various former vehicles and don’t need to add to that! |

Oils have become amazing. Lost lost into history are the days you cou,d buy “bad” oil. Once you get past the highly technical and hypothetical preference discussions. . . . I’m betting ANY oil you buy works, at least, very well. Two simultaneous developments. . . . The oil and the materials and manufacturing methods. |

Court x1000 ^^^^^^ I think we just feel better about spending a ton of money on our toys. LOL Oddly, I see lots of 'SYNTHETIC OIL ONLY!' people running e-bay junk filters. Duh. I have seen more problems with oil being TOO good, than not good enough. We'd get diesels in with 70,000 miles with the rings still not broken in and hash marks on the cylinder walls. Of the motors I can think of, the 1190 I would imagine is easily the most sensitive to oil choice. This thing is really strung tight. |

And I recall the 1125 being filled with oil and pinned ar redline for 24 hours. Watched an interesting video yesterday of 2 new motors . . . One broken in per specs ..... the 2nd run like. A banshee for 1,000 ..... then the 2 torn down and compared. Zero difference. New oils are amazing. Lots of opinions on this and while I broke the new Porsche in precisely by the book. . . . I know it likely made little difference. Author of the article suggested break in was as much for all the other components, such as suspension, as the motor. The 1125, during development, went through some amazing and brutal testing. |

I keep thinking I should visit Facebook sometime. . . . Then I think about visiting Face book sometime. Maybe. Not likely. But, I confess, by filing the world with so much disinformation and creating so many pseudo-experts it’s made my life so much easier. Anyway. The Elves at Buell did some AMAZING engineering on the Helicon motor that, beyond small circles, will likely go unappreciated. Many have opinions. They generated known facts. |

But didn't you know? If something goes wrong with your bike... You are the expert now and EVERY bike has that EXACT issue and must be repaired immediately! (#Buy my parts....) I don't have a FB account either and I don't even click FB links anymore. FB bought Instagram and it immediately was showered in scammer ads and junk. I deleted that too. |
