A couple of times it's been mentioned about a white wire in the ECU grey connector on pin 8 that once it is removed gives the International bikes a boost in torque due to emmision controls. I've called dealers and they say it is bullshit and I don't want to be playing with that sort of thing. I've also read through the Search of the white wire and read tonnes of replies which seem to label the Aussie bike as the worst offender for strict emissions. Anyone know if this still applies to the 2004 model bikes? |

yes - both the 03 and 04 have the white wire - cut it and it improves on the "hole" in acceleration at 3500 rpm. |

Kaudette, what does this wire do? I presume it is only applicable to the standard ecu and not the race kit? Anyone know more ? |

How about just easing the pin out of the plug during a dyno session to see if it has a beneficial effect?? Sure would make it easier to justify, and to put back to stock in case it's not a good thing Henrik |

the wire is on the stock ECU only - the race ECU does not have the emissions controller of the stock ECU. Only the export Buell's have the white wire for EU emissions - there is a noticeable drop in power before 4G with the white wire that is documented in dyno runs in most of the bike magazines overhere for the 9. There is enough wire to re-splice it if necessary as pulling the pin is a pain in the a**. |

What does the wire go to? What is the effect (More fuel delivery?)? Does this wire exist on the 12's? Can we get this Dyno'd? Does it make any difference on a non-cali American model? |

With the right pin-pulling tool, it's usually not a problem. Though, granted, I haven't looked at that particular plug. Henrik |

As I recall the manual has a diagram of each type of connector they used on the Buells. I also seem to remember that each one was accompanied by the proper pin removal method. I could be wrong though. |

There is no wire on the US models so nothing to cut. I will look at the user manual to get the exact info however basically it restricts fuel delivery from 3300 to 3700 as this is the RPM in 5th that they do the emissions testing at. There is the same on the 12 but only the international models as per the info I have. (European 12S had one before I swapped out hte ECM) |

US 2004 XB12S's ECM has two white wires, one for the interactive exhaust and one for the vehicle speed sensor. Don't cut these wires. |

I have a pdf explaining the "fix" and will send by email to starter. |

I put a switch in my wire just in case I cut the wrong one! |

Kaudette cheers for the article. My manual says it is the VSS as well. But looking at the diagram the white wire that has to be cut is spliced into the circuit to go to the ECM. Well I pulled it from the connector as it is really easy using a small screwdriver. The result seems to be favourable with a nice linear pull all the way through the revs. It doesn't seem to lug anymore either. So that I can get a real feel for things I'm intending on putting a switchable version in so that I can try the get a better indication. Don't have a dyno so that is the best I can do. I am also going to run it with the guy that lives downstaires as he rides it frequently and always complains about the flat spot. He was under the impression it was due to air flow so I'll give him a ride not telling him what I've done a see what his response is. |
