Anyone see the article in "Hot Bikes" magazine about a custom bike called the Mutant Buell? It seems that they replaced the best part of a Buell (the frame) and replaced it with a hard-tail. And the point of this exercise is....?

I broke a belt at 16K. I was really beating on it at the time. I think it broke when I shifted into third. I coasted at least half a mile up a small hill and around a turn all the way to a corner and around into the parking lot of a gas station. Thats when I figured out what happened. I thought my tranny f'd up. It didn't matter what gear I put it in, it just revved out with no drive! Took a little lookin' before I noticed the belt wasn't there.

Fijohny,
Mine broke around 12k (X1). It happened after riding for 1000 miles or so with the primary side crank seal gone (Brag northeast adventure). The belt was getting soaked in sport trans. I don't know if that caused it, but I can't believe it helped.

F1,
Is that price including installation? Or just for the belt? There's enough mechanical talent up there near you to get the job done during a bar-b-que. You can probably update the rear isolators at the same time.

Mike, the first time I called it was not including labor, but I called another HD and they said 175 for belt and 319 for labor
still icky..

$319 to replace a belt????????

Granted its more of a pain with the S3, but with a frame spreader..yes there is such a thing..its a relatively fast job.

When I replaced my isolators last spring it took me 3 hours. Let's see, $600-$175 (belt)=$425/3=$141 per hour. Wow! I have the wrong job.

Just got back from the Homecoming. We couldn't stay due to other commitments. They said that there were 120 registrants but I couldn't tell if there were. BRAG did a bang up job it looks like to me, it's too bad there wasn't a better turn out.

Yesterday we were running 90-100 through some of the curves and never saw a cop. Then 2 blocks from Lake Lawn Drew got nailed for not slowing down going from 50 - 35. Ouch.

My bike died 7 mi. from home after 600mi. in 2 days. Right now I'm charging the battery to see if the battery just died or something worse. I knew I had problems 30mi. from home when after a pit stop it didn't start too well and then the check engine light stayed on. After awhile the tach and speedo died then a couple miles later - putt-putt-putt - dead.

Mike; check your charging system. Sounds like when the stator went out on my old Lowrider.

Yep, stator's out. My S1 has done this twice. Open the primary chain adjust hole. If it smells like burnt oil thats a confirm.

Yep, she's toast. I forgot about the 'smell' test. What's the chance the regulator is bad too?
Thanks,

Could be the regulator, those puke a lot more than the stator will. Symptoms you described were exactly the same as my bike when the regulator went out. had 2 of em fry on me & both time they also somehow managed to take out the battery at the same time.

The regulator is fine. Changing the stator is an easy job.

To all of you who didn't come to Homecoming due to work concerns, driving concerns or complaining that the price was too high let me tell you that you missed one heck of a great time! The BRAG folks went above and beyond anything I have ever seen for a biker rally. The food was not just good, it was outstanding. From Wednesday thru Saturday the only food product I have purchased is one diet coke while on the road. The race tickets alone were $49!! So for the other $26 I received a t-shirt, a watch, and seven meals including being fed at Road America which would have run at least $20 just for the sodas I drank!!

For all the Texas and surrounding area Buellers: We NEED to support the upcoming BRAG event in Kerrville, TX in October. It will be held close to san Antonio so bring your families. Even if they don't want to do the motorcycle thing there are tons of things to do in San Antonio like Six Flags and Sea World

We really need to support BRAG. They are busting their butts to support us!!

I agree with Dan. We need to show our support when we can for these events. If we don't they are going to go away.
I know I wasn't registered due to schedule problems but I think Peggy was still happy that we came for a couple of days.
