Sweet. Wish I could buy that Model 1950. The issues with sending it to a local shop and that it's too pretty to sweat all over it, though...
Hmm, worth a drive to look at? Let me see.
Careful reading of Georgia law seems to permit unloaded transportation in a case in a motor vehicle. My NY permit is not valid in GA. ( fair, as NY is notoriously bad about recognizing any other State's ) So I couldn't carry while there... But technically, feasible.
Darn it. Probably best not. Too bad, since I don't have a .45ACP revolver, and that's nearly perfect. ( that would get the spinner target at the local matches that seems to demand I hit it 7 times with .38 Special But that's probably my problem, not the caliber )
I understand the reluctance, and the logic on selling a gun that is too nice to carry. That it's too pretty to sweat on is the real reason I shouldn't get it.
A buddy has been trying to get me to get back out competing, and I've been haunting the shops for the hard to find "not a loophole" guns that I would want. ( Garand, Marlin in compatible pistol caliber ( or just use it as an excuse to buy a compatible revolver ) ) I found a cherry Rossi '92 clone in .480 Ruger. ? That would rile them up at the local matches and probably take only 2 hits to spin the cursed spinner, but ammo cost and the need to reload enough to practice... Silly idea.
It's always great to try to ban things, while people are buying said things in droves.
My GF, I guess, realized how much that revolver means to me...and suggested selling her only revolver for me. While I appreciate the gesture...that's a bad idea. Things are just things unless they have practical value.
Speaking of sweating all over...a guy last night put his greasy mitts literally all over it. That was gross, and a PITA to wipe off.
If I had to I could live with just a Model 10 and a Model 36...but I really don't want to. It's hard to live without an Airweight. Those guns are just great for backup duty.
My GF really can't come to grips with having a collection of guns. To her things are just things. Everything is an appliance and everything is disposable. To me, bikes, guns, and cars are personal items. Once so much time and/or money are invested...they get hard to let go. All mechanical devices have their own personality, as well. No matter how precise or consistent manufacturing becomes...they all end up a little different. Once they're tuned, modified, and/or personalized...they may as well be yours forever.
People who own magazines that hold more than 10 rounds were allowed to keep them but cannot load more than 10 rounds.
This will ostensibly prevent murderers from having more than 10 rounds in their AR15-like military grade assault weapons. Because, you know, murder isn’t illegal or anything, so we need to limit the damage.
How about the Common Sense regulation that we revamp the entire Gun control laws to modern sensibilities.
We'll keep the rules on registering as a Dealer if you have many gun sales and the basic keeping of records. Further, a website & database will be created to list reported stolen guns, and guns confiscated by police in criminal investigations. A free app, ( with annoying ads & the option to pay ) will be written to interrogate the database and compare to past transactions, without releasing the private data on the Citizen's computer on the web. Use is strictly voluntary, to aid Citizens in assisting the police to investigate crimes, and return stolen property to the rightful owner. Returning stolen property instead of the current red tape will also be a law.
We'll keep a portion of the 1934 machine gun legislation as well. Keep the tax stamp on machine guns and a small list of "Destructive Devices". ( see note 1 )
Noise Suppressor tech will be explicitly legalized, with a hearing safety campaign encouraging their voluntary use. ( because people will Demand they be mandatory if it's not explicitly voluntary )
SBRs and other guns under the current (more or less, I'd argue about 2-3" shorter than today) length rules ( barrel & overall ) would be classified as " concealable = same rules as hand guns " for State concealed carry permits.
Acknowledging that we are a diverse people with diverse living environments, States will choose if they wish to require permits to carry concealed, ( on a shall issue basis, subject to laws on criminal and medical checks. This will be contentious! ) or allow open carry of hand guns. ( long guns are explicitly legal to safely transport, but States may require a carry permit to carry loaded and ready in high population density areas... )
Full reciprocity on carry permits, plus no requirement for residence to obtain a permit. ( so Citizens of a State, say, Arizona, that does not require a carry permit, can apply for one from Delaware, which does. Presumably, but not necessarily, one is expected to get a permit from the State you think you are most likely will visit and wish to carry, legally. )
All regulations on cosmetic, so called assault weapons, and features ( Saturday night specials) will be scrapped. & forbidden. Such laws are dishonest and nonsensical, as well as a violation of civil rights.
Note 1 An incomplete list of "Destructive Devices" will include grenade launchers, Rocket launchers, cannons over an arbitrary size, say, 40mm, and lasers of power levels arbitrarily defined... Let's just say really dangerous )
End proposed legislation...
That's the best I can come up with at the moment to be Common Sense and Constitutional. I'm open to argument on all of it, I may not have thought it through.
We'll keep a portion of the 1934 machine gun legislation as well. Keep the tax stamp on machine guns and a small list of "Destructive Devices". NO
Noise Suppressor completely legal without paper work or registration.
SBRs and other guns under the current (more or less, I'd argue about 2-3" shorter than today) length rules ( barrel & overall ) would be classified as " concealable = same rules as hand guns " for State concealed carry permits. NO
Legal carry nation wide with no restrictions. "Destructive Devices" will not be regulated. Completely gut any thing that touches our rights. The founding fathers never said "except cannons".
The entirety of the NFA is useless garbage sold under false pretenses. I think exploding ammunition can be sold as explodie things are normally sold.
I fired my 22-4 today. Hit my 1/3 size rifle plate on the first try without any hold over...and hit it half the time while it was swinging. Beat the crap out of my pistol plate...consistently hit exactly where I was aiming. It ain't going nowhere anytime soon.
Currently in Cali... I assembled one of my very old Colt AR-15's today. Normally a piece of cake. But down the wormhole I went!
I had to use a different lower because even though it is functionally IDENTICAL... #Commiefornia doesn't like the serial number of the one it came with. No one can answer why, but reason and logic have no place here...
And I had to order another break down pin/mag release BS $35 button thing. I'm actually just as fast changing mags that way once I get the habit down. At least the school children are safe.
I'm a little low on .556 but I cannot legally buy any ammo in Cali with my Florida DL even though both states say I have to keep the FL license (6 mo + 1 day in FL). Besides they want $19 for a background check the first time, and another fee EVERY TIME you buy ammo after that. Ya know, for the kids.
I CAN however, legally fly to my mom's in Oregon for $79, say hello and do some chores. Legally, with NO ID or background check, buy up to 50LBS per checked bag of ammo (Thats 1860 rounds BTW). Legally check both bags for free, (thanks SWA!) in an UNLOCKED case, not even hard sided, but Cabelas had a case+ammo deal Legally collect my bags from the carousel in LAX and bring home 3,720 rounds in an Uber.
That should be good for at least one trip to the desert
I think the cannon threshold should be 106mm or at worst, 82mm!
If I build another cannon, It will have an 8.5" bore. I have parts in the shed for a 1.68" cannon, including a Russian mortar sight for it. It's hard to come up with safe places to fire it. So, it stays in pieces. There should be no limits on what weapon a free man can own.
Any argument that accepts a level or limit as being acceptable has no clue to what level will need to be breached to defeat the enemies of the republic. The same people think it is OK for the government to require me to get a permit or license for my right to bear arms. If I could impose the same licensing and permit issuing requirements on your right to free speech, would you begin to see what they have done?
If I could impose the same licensing and permit issuing requirements on your right to free speech, would you begin to see what they have done?
Not very, shall not be infringey of them.
Our European counterparts do have some absurd limits on speech. Saying anything that offends their protected classes, (I.E. a group or class of people politicians are banking their political agenda on at the time) are subject to the full force of the law.
I was going for a transitional system that I thought could actually get passed by Congress, if there is a major shift in 2020.
My personal preference is more libertarian, but the only way I see it happening is to go to authoritarian rule, which rather defeats the purpose.
Sure, a hypothetical conspiracy to overthrow the government, make myself King, rewrite the laws to please me, would technically "work". But I don't want the job, don't want to slaughter hundreds of politicians. ( oh, you can fantasize, but really? ) And don't want to impose a police state to free us from one.
And I'm well aware that no matter how wise and we'll meaning my intent is, evil minions would just murder me and take over.
It's what happens in most cases of well meaning revolutions. The alternative is like in Iraq, where Saddam took over, sat in their congress, and had his minions take out & shoot opposition. Fun for the moment. Then a lifetime of murderous paranoia and dodging assassinations.
I LIKE a limited Constitutional government. Swore an Oath to uphold ours. So my reach is less radically libertarian than one might like.
I only want a Republic. All other forms of government lead to the loss of freedom in the end. Democracy, anarchy, oligarchy, socialist, communist....will morph or fall into a few ruling the masses. Look how far it has got with the democracy chipping away at our Republic year after year. A stand should have been made 86 years ago. I am not crying for aggressive antagonistic violence, but that ability shall not be infringed. I say that if your freedom is punched in the face, the mind behind the offending fist needs to cease and desist. Education of the masses towards this mind set has been eroded over time. And to the point that the out cry against the crime has became a whimper. More than a letter and threat of being sued the order needs teeth. Just as we let the grievance accumulate with England before we acted our grievances with the Federal Government have been building. It was never meant to be such a thing.
This is the time to hold the line. Don't accept lies, don't comply with one more theft of rights.
Vote in November.
My proposal was what I thought I could get in the best case. I really doubt you can roll regulations back more at one time. Later, IF you could accomplish my immodest notions, Then you can move the window further.
