Age limits on procedures sounds like a very practical thing to control costs whereas trying to soothe the emotions of the elderly sounds like a bottomless pit to me. Which age limits are you referring to specifically? Regarding euthanasia, IMHO you never needed permission in the first place. | ||

Our systems just are incapable of treating individuals as individuals. To just pick One aspect, the age of recreational drug use. It was legal in my youth, in Nebraska, to drink 3.2 beer @ 16. Real beer & wine @ 18, & hard liquor @ 21. The rules were different across State lines. Today, thanks to Old Tarts authoritarian jealousy of the young taking over "their" bars ( as they did in a forgotten past ) The drinking age is 21. ( which is unfair IMHO, to Adults who pay taxes and serve in the military. Old enough to die for us, but not to drink with us? Bite my shiny... ) And as the different States legalize other recreational drugs in defiance of post Alcohol Prohibition Federal Unconstitutional power grabs, again, the age rules are arbitrary. ( after Prohibition, an army of enforcers of "no fun freedoms" had no purpose. So they changed the rules on other recreational drugs to maintain the Abolitionist grip. ) Once you are past the age of legal intoxication, you tend not to think about the rules that limit your adult freedoms. ( unless you are foolish enough to fall for a 16 year old. A too common Hot For Teacher issue ) But now the older among us... Like me, have to worry that at a certain arbitrary age, we will be declared a drag on the System we paid into our entire adult lives, and be told to go home and shut up, or if we follow the European model, be put down like a sick pet. Or the Chinese model, where access to live saving treatment is more a matter of Party Loyalty. | ||

I think it's about time the Fed put its foot down about immigration law. I wish they'd do it on many other things - CCW reciprocity, for example. States are getting away with too much crap these days, and nobody at the federal level will grow a pair, and remind them that they are part of our nation and our nation has NATIONAL rules that all states must obey. Steps like these ICE arrests, or on a grander scale, simply stopping all federal funding for those locales, are needed in order to keep these liberal locations under control and keep our Nation safe. I'm all for immigration. Hell, we ALL came from somewhere else. But...do it the right way. Compound your illegal status by breaking our laws and becoming a violent offender? Uh-uh. Nope. You forfeit your rights to ANYthing. Do not collect $200, do not pass "go". Get on the bus, get on the plane, and only see sunlight again when you're back in your home country. Preferably serving time THERE for your crimes here. | ||

Yep, burn down the DOJ! Funny thing I heard on the news, that as part of the sentencing of Stone, they looked at the sentence passed on another person with "similar crimes". Who was that? Wait for it... Scooter Libby! Another ridiculous political hack job of the legal system, to justify this one. The average time for such crimes is a fraction of that, when the even get prosecuted.
