Andy, Yeah, I have a 35" inseam and after years of running and skiing my knees don't like to be bent that much for a very long time. I bought the XX more for the looks and sound. It's real smooth up to 70 then that high frequency vibration makes my fingers go numb on the long rides. My son rides it most of the time and not too long ago he rode my S3 and came back saying "Wow, the Buell handles so much better"! And if I ever need a thrill I go out on a back road and crank the throttle, that acceleration is absolutely amazing. | ||

Yeah, I have a 35" inseam... That explains alot. It's real smooth up to 70 then that high frequency vibration makes my fingers go numb... I've found that certain slip-on pipes can actually help that situation, plus the use of a Throttlemister cruise control. I have an externally adjustable counterbalancer and when I set it up as the manual suggests, I actually get more vibration. Hmmm. My son...rode my S3 and came back saying "Wow, the Buell handles so much better"! The 200 pound difference explains why he says that. The CBR is much more stable beacuse of its longer wheelbase and trail, but the Buell turns on a dime without much work. At the end of the day I prefer the rock stable handling of my CBR (and the great fairing!). There are some suspension setup tricks I have learned to wake up the "slow" chassis of my CBR (i.e. proper fork sag and position in the trees), where today less experienced riders on Gixxers have trouble keeping up on the street. Nicole I can tell you that I love mine more then the ZX6-RR that I just sold. I can take it to the track and canyons with no worries, then turn around and do a 600 mile day on the freeways comfortably. It is absolutley the best all around bike that I have ever in my 18 years of liscensed riding ridden. It does everything I ask of it, then asks if it can do more. | ||

I'd like to get out and test ride one...if they'll let me. I think it would be quite different (in a better way) than the Kawasaki. I like the fact that Buell is the only American sportbike. | ||

There has to be a dealer in the area that would let you. If all else fails get in touch with DaveS up at Appleton Buell/HD. And yes it will be "Different in every sense" Approach it with an open mind when you do get the chance. | ||

Nicole, Hal's HD in New Berlin does demo rides. Stop in check it out. All you will need is proper riding attire, including helmet and a valid motorcycle license. If you are interested in meeting a bunch of Buell enthusiasts, stop by Hal's Thursday morning 8-11, I believe, as they have some stuff going on for the "Bringing it Home" BRAG event. Uke's in Kenosha will have stuff going on Friday as well. As suggested above, DaveS in Appleton is great as well. | ||

Nicole the pic of my bike is in my profile. Its officially known as an XB12S "Lightning". By adding the Firebolt front fairing I get the touring comfort of the "S" and the ridign position of the "R" . I think its something the factory should offer off the showroom floor. | ||

Nicole, The long or short story? I had followed them since the late 80's. Back burnered ever owning one due thier prices and my income. Fast forward to 98, stopped by St Pual HD/Buell and took a S1W out for a test ride. I was hooked. Finally bought one in '00 and been riding one ever since. The grin rarely leaves my face. BTW: you really need to check out a "BattleTrax" event. Most fun you could ever have in a parking lot(on a bike that is). | ||

I noticed when I took off my tank to change out rockerbox gaskets that the tank has been rubbing against the frame and has worn into the metal on the frame. Alot! Oh yeah, the tank is worn as well. Has anyone else seen this? What is a good fix? Ken | ||

Buellguy,check the knowledge vault,part #'s are listed there.Go to your neighborhood bearing supply house as they will have better quality bearings for about 1/2 price.The ones in my S-2's front wheel were from Turkey,and when I took it to get matched they laughed at me---wanted to know where the hell I got that. Blasterd,are there rubber bushings around frame to cushion tank,I know the S-2's have 4-5 of them for tank to rest on. | ||

Ken, Try some strategically placed strips of inner-tube glued to the frame. I put a bit of RTV on my tank to help protect it at the front where it is held by the frame. | ||

All, The trip I'm doing is something that I believe will be a life changing thing. My friend, Matt, who I am dedicating this trip to, has been a huge influence in my life, before and after his diagnosis with cancer. His ongoing positive attitude throughout his battle with cancer is awesome.
