Are the inner/bottom valve cover on the S2 the same as the XB? I think so, but thought I'd check here first. | ||

Are you referring to the top of the heads where the breathers are? They're similar, and can be made to be interchangeable. The S2(and all tubers) have the heads with the valves, then a gasket, another piece with the breather valves in them, a gasket, then the top cover. You XBs have the heads/valves, a gasket, then 1 piece that holds the breathers, in this case a PCV valve on the top. You can put the XB covers on your S2, you'll just want to get a new gasket for each cylinder, the XB covers, 2 PCV valves, and some tubing to run the breathers down to a catch can or whatever you plan to do with them. If you're specifically referring to the heads that have the actual valves in them, they're different, but will bolt onto your S2. You need to get a new front engine mount that will make the XB heads bolt to the tuber frame. Hope that answered your question. | ||

Information and parts for using XB heads on 1991 - 2002 Buells can be found, near the bottom of this page; https://www.hammerperf.com/xltopend.shtml Quotes from the page; Carburetor Note 1: The EFI heads will also work in this application when combined with a special wider intake manifold available here. Retrofitting late model heads to 91-03 XL models is not difficult and many people have done it with great results. As with the Thunderstorm heads, you have to deal with the larger 7/16-14 front mount bolts. You also need to deal with the fact that the right front mount bolt is relocated inward 1/4", but this is easily resolved with an inexpensive front mount available below. Also, be aware that your head fins will overhang the cylinder fins somewhat, although most people don't find it objectionable. Finally, be aware that these heads are .020" shorter than stock 91-03 heads, which by itself should not cause an issue. However, if you're lowering your stack further with head milling and/or thin gaskets, you need to factor this in when considering pushrod length. The XB rocker cover bolts right up to the S2 rocker box if you eliminate the middle spacer. So I’d say they are very similar if not the same. (Message edited by Williamscottrobertson on January 07, 2020) | ||

If you're putting XB rockerboxes on an S2, you're going to want two FRONT covers, so the breather valves clear the rear underside of the fuel tank. DAMHIK. | ||
