Aaron spent a lot of time explaining this to me when I had a problem with a cam... I put it in the knowledge vault somewhere. In a nutshell, a 97 M2 would have the old style cams, the ones that were custom matched to the case. There is a dot painted on them, a particular color, and you need to put that color back in. I think the 2001 M2 would have the new style HCR (High Contact ratio) cams, that are "one size fits all" but are louder. There is also a difference on an additional gear pressed on one of the cams that happened sometime in 2000 (I think). I also think the M2 uses the normal sportster grind cams, so if you can find a set from the right years for one of those, that should work. With all the hopped up sportsters around, you would think this would be easy to find, but I called probably 10 local shops, and nobody had any. I was able to order just one cam from my (good) dealer (F&S Buell). Buell will claim you can only order the 2000 cams as a set, but thats just because of that one odd gear pressed onto that one cam. If you need one of the other 3 cams, you can lie and say it goes to a 99 instead of a 2000 and they can look up (and order) the part. A big thanks again to Aaron for explaining all this to me. So, in a nutshell, I don't think Rex's cams will solve Boatz problems, but I could be wrong. |

Hey guys, I am new to registering to this website, but I have been browsing it for about 3 months. I just bought a 1999 X1 Lightning and it is now my favorite bike.I have been looking for a tail section to convert it to an S1 but having a hard time. If anyone knows where I can find a website for one I would greatly appreciate it. |

Wrecker, There is no such thing as as X1 to S1 tail conversion. The frames are completely different. You would need to do A LOT of custom fabrication to even make it close to an S1 tail.

Yeah a real customizer could probably do it, but how about a custom seat and paint the aluminum tail to match the bodywork? |

The M2 conversion into an X1 is rather easily done. I think Josh's idea is a little more realistic with regards to the X1 tho. |

@Wrecker A Buddy of mine in germany has developed a cool custom tail section for the X1. Check it out: http://www.motorradhandel.ch/cfm/bild.cfm?id=242467&auswahl=1&form_kundennr=694 http://heuer-blechbearbeitung.bei.t-online.de/Rauso/index_buell_x1.htm http://www.chez.com/rmathis/bfb2004/bild_41.jpg http://www.chez.com/rmathis/bfb2004/bild_105.jpg http://www.chez.com/rmathis/bfb2004/bild_107.jpg Most of my X1 buddies have converted there rides to that. It comes with the seat and bolts right on. He does ship to the States too. Cheers HiReZ edited by hirez on May 31, 2004 edited by hirez on May 31, 2004 edited by hirez on May 31, 2004 |

Tod: any Sportster unit would work. I think the 96 rear fenders were painted CF? |

Hmmm...Glad I broke down and bought a spare Race ECM for my X1. Even if I never use it, it may be one of my better investments. LOL |
