Hey guys,

I bought this used Mikuni HSR42 for my S1W off of eBay.

I wasn’t impressed. Idk, maybe I was doing something wrong. Put my CVP kitted CV back on it and it behaves much better.

Includes the box with instructions and tuning manual, carb with choke, HD air cleaner adapter, 155/165 main jets, 22.5/20 pilot jets, a richer needle, intake gasket, bowl gasket, and misc screws.

Currently jetted: 17.5/160/-97 needle on the middle clip, 2 turns on the air screw. That’s the way it came new from what I read.

$250 to your door. Thanks!

Don’t want to hijack the thread but are the ones on eBay actual Mikunis or Chinese knock offs? I’ve read mixed reports on various forums of people receiving questionable carbs that looks like Mikunis but weren’t.

Since I am a carb guy,not just bikes,i watch this unfold on evilbay The chinese are deceiving as hell and evilbay lets them get away with actually using the brand name in the auction title.the knock offs are crap ,terrible castings on out, usually under $100 for the hsr the cv and the s/s .Only way to tell is checkin the pictures for the brand name on the carb body and the cv will have an hd part number.Comparing the
cv and the hsr, if your bike is not performance oriented then there is no need to use the hsr.it delivers much better throttle response with the voes than the cv but sacrifices fuel mileage. The cv MUST have the 10 or so mods done to it by someone like myself to reap its benefits, it WILL feel like a different bike when installed and jetted correctly.i machine a custom 2 bolt flange and run the c v on shovels and ironheads, and am casting intakes to use on a Triumph and a panhead..send me your beer can tabs, lol.I am always buyin c v carb cores and will rebuild/mod one for anybody interested. Its not expensive ,and save your money ,dont buy a cvp kit or yost power tube or any type of kit, stay away from the chinese rebuild kits too.

That one in the url I believe is not a knockoff. But yea the knockoffs I would stay away from. They normally real for munkuni or for Harley and unbranded. Been there done that.

This one is genuine Mikuni. I wasn’t aware they were available new for $245. When I was looking at new they were $275. Anyway, it’s got some extras, I’ll be losing money but I’d do $220 shipped if someone wants it, if not maybe I’ll try it on my other S1W and see if it does any different.

I had an HSR42 on my '97 S1. The throttle response was truly stump pulling. So much so, I actually sheared the splined teeth on the counter sprocket/counter pulley. And I mean they were sheared CLEAN off as if they were precision machined out of the input bore by a Bridgeport mill.

However, the bike was initially configured with the stock Mikuni settings as you've described. With those setting and a low restriction K&N filter, the bike hesitated and "hicupped" with some spitting through the carb pretty badly when the throttle was barely cracked open. If the throttle was opened fully it ran strong.

I tried changing the pilot jet up a notch, didn't solve the problem. Messed around with needle height and air screw settings - also didn't solve the problem. Long story short, turns out it was the needle itself. The -97 was too lean. I put a -96 in and the problem virtually disappeared. Had I put a -95 in it would have run even better, but with the -96 it was pretty much cured of the hiccups after that.

If that's you're problem, give that a shot. Once you get it dialed in you will prefer the HSR42 to stock. It's a pumper carb unlike the stock unit and it REALLY wakes the bike up.

Jayvee I don't see your response here, but email me direct for a list i already have. theres plenty of vids on YT too,but watch more then a few before you make a move,I say carb guy like me just simply because I can tell from seein so many whats been done what hasn't. same with indications of future problems. the coughs and hiccups that Gen U described are indicative of a stock CV type carb no matter the brand or app. NONE of the mods are to/on the carb bodies,so nothing permanent.Anyone stating different is incorrect and the big companies in carb performance like CVP and killer carb will agree on this contact me direct hawgford@windstream.net.Jettin and parts sizing etc from a Keihin cannot be applied to a Mik
