Hi all. I have heard conflicting info regarding the 1190rs bikes. Some say that all of them had magnesium wheels. Some say that only the early ones did (whatever "early" means, considering how few they made). Some say that magnesium wheels were only special ordered, otherwise they were aluminum. Which is accurate and how would I know which wheels a given bike has? Also, I have heard that the "early" (again, what does that mean?) engines were left over 1125r engines that got reworked, while "later" engines got built from scratch. Is that true? If so, is there any record of what VIN bikes got which engines/wheels/etc? Thanks! | ||

Not all of them had magnesium wheels. They were more common on 2012 model year bikes, less so on 2013 model year bikes. There were some casting issues with the magnesium wheels, so they were harder to attain. There were some casting/finish differences between the Al and Mg wheels, but I can't remember those details. There more more 1190RS models built than sold, at least at time of company closure in 2015. I will not comment on your "reworked" statement, however all engines were of the same origin. The color of the crankcases tells the story. If you want more details, PM me. EBR, when they were still actually EBR (not LAP), had records of every build detail on every VIN.
