So with it being 2019 and our tube frame parts are getting harder and harder to find, what's out there nowadays for a good high flowing muffler for an X1? Was riding my X1 last night and the old V&H can started to rattle really bad. Can feel that the can has movement from the front inlet. Haven't pulled it off to see if it's repairable yet, but figured I'd look for replacement options in case it's a lost cause.

If you have the 2 1/2" or 2" exhaust there is a good option, the SuperTrapp S/C Elite Mufflers.
This is a stainless steel muffler designed for a car, but it fits perfectly! I love mine. Looks like one which came stock on the RS/RSS 1200, minus the mounting tab.
Just ball peen a dimple in it for the Transmission oil drain, and form a strap for the back mount.
Looks good, sounds good, adds HP like the V&H, Cheaper than any other option, Will last the life of the X1, and it is tune-able by adding more plates.

Do not remember the size of the exhaust on the 1989 - 2007 Buells, just remember it was less than 2 1/2".
Believe the exception was the 1996-1998 S1 which used a 2 1/2" exhaust.

SuperTrapp S/C Elite Mufflers, which use the 4" Diffuser disks, come with inlet sizes of: 1 1/2", 1 3/4", 2", 2 1/4", 2 1/2", and 3".

Isn't this a sticky somewhere?

Up to 1998: 2" collector
The ONLY 1998's with a 2.5": S1W and S3 (first Thunderstorm bikes)

ANY 1999-and newer tuber? 2.5" because ALL Thunderstorm motors had a 2.5" collector.

For the OP, your header will be a 2.5" collector, the only variation will be whether it's a factory side-facing exit or a race-header rear-facing exit. But, if you have a V&H on it now...it's a factory side-facing exit. You'll need an elbow to make one of the above Supertrapps work with your header.

ALL of the factory headers had collectors pointed across the front of the bike, at a downward angle, regardless of 2" or 2.5". The ONLY exception to this rule is the 95/96 S2/S2T, which had a rear-facing 2" collector.

ALL tuber Race headers were a rear-facing 2.5" collector.

My 97 S1 has the 2" V&H on it. Would it be safe to assume that the 2" Supertrapp would work fine with the 90 degree midpipe from the V&H? I've also had thoughts about just going on ebay and seeing if I can find a random stainless end can from another bike with a 2" hole to see if it would slide on the V&H midpipe and I could just mount it with a strap on the rear.

I have the blue ceramic coated 2.5" side exit header. Personally, I've never been a fan of the Supertrapp mufflers as they have always been clunky with the disk tuning deal. Sadly at this point in owning an obsolete bike, I may be forced to go that route if I can't fix the V&H can.

"I may be forced to go that route.."

Forced eh?

https://www.useforce.com/product/buell-generation- 2-exhaust/

I am sure somebody will chime in with "they're too loud", but it's an option. I have always had good luck with both their intake and exhaust products.

Like I say, it's an option.

Good luck!

I was looking at the KDFab website before. They don't list anything for the tube frames anymore, just the XB's I guess I can just call them and see if they still make a drummer for my bike

Wow, looking at the SuperTrapp 443-2517, and $237, that's about half the price of the motorcycle specific model. Also, I see they come in a longer version, with a case length of 22" instead of 17". If that would fit, I would consider that one myself, for $263. My assumption being it would be a bit quieter with the same number of discs. When I weighed my old SuperTrapp, it was very close to the stock muffler weight, within 8 ounces, on my cheap scale.
The Drummer is lighter, I suppose because it's sort of a "gutted" stock muffler. The tone is better (lower) than the SuperTrapp, but also too loud for me for commuting. And it's also way more than $237.

The 17" SuperTrapp comes to about 3" from the rear tire, so the 22" muffler would be too long.
Tune the SuperTrapp sound an volume level quieter by reducing the number of disks. SuperTrapp recommends;

"A stock engine with stock jetting will not benefit from using more than 12 to 15 discs. Using more than 15 discs will require richer jetting to prevent a lean condition. Best all around performance will be achieved with a jet kit, an aftermarket air cleaner, and 15 to 18 discs depending on degree of engine modification."

You can search for one of the old Buell "Pro Series" (not the "race") mufflers. They were rebadged Supertrapp INTERNAL disc mufflers, designed to fit stock headers (they had elbows on the inlet end), and had a nice mellow tone when tuned to your tastes. If I recall correctly on my old '99 M2, I ran one of those with 10 discs and an "open" end-disc, inside the outer endcap - it was nearly as rumbly as a true race muffler, breathed/performed extremely well, and it looked good to boot.

Oldweirdbob from Sacborg here, haven't looked in on badweb for years now. Don't post nowhere no more. Just checking in to see if this place still exists.
Too shaky to ride my S-1 anymore. But it still sits in the garage along with... drumroll...a BRAND NEW 725-71235 Supertrap still in the box. I got it on a warranty claim but it doesen't fit my 96 S-1 so it just sits there.
Thought about mounting it on my tractor. Then I thought maybe someday someone might want this thing. Darn near modified it to fit the S-1 but I didn't. Still sits there.
Might prove handy to beat Cecil over the head if he should wander into this area. yuk yuk.

Yeah it's the 2.5 inlet. Just checked it to be sure everything is there. Sometimes I (used to) start grabbing discs in a tuning frenzy but they are all still there. Toss in the mouse nest too. Mouse is gone though.
$225 and you pay the shipping sound OK? That should be around half the amazon price.
I'm in Washington state. I rally don't know the best way to get it to you. Not in the biz of selling stuff. More of a rat packer type person. The paperwork sez 2002. Wonder if they have made any improvements to the ones at amazon in the link above?
Ya know all that shiny stainless might look really slick on my tractor now that I think about it again.
If I don't get back to you very fast it's because I'm up to my crotch in crocodiles around here.

Should add this - The warrant claim was on a different muffler setup for the S-1. Recall type thing if I remember right. Somehow they sent me the correct muffler then later sent me the 2.5 setup. Some kinda snafu in the shipping dept I guess.

Fedex is typically the cheapest option when it comes to bigger packages like that.

Love the blue ceramic header, I might get one of those someday. I use a stock header bought used with matte silver ceramic coating, and wow is it a huge improvement in heat. Highly recommended, especially if the plastic heat shield isn't on the bike. As far as ST discs, there was an old post that said more is better: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/11112.html?1100449364}

Very good quality (almost) exact replicas of the Buell Pro-Race headers and muffler are available brand new in the UK. If anyone is interested. The originals are indeed, hard to find.
