Kind o fun link to play with. Every now and then it'll cough up some bike pics and you can follow them back to pages where people were posting ride pics. http://diddly.com/random/about.html http://diddly.com/random/ |

Just curious...can anyone tell me how to read the VIN number? No real need to know. I'd just like to see were my bikes fit in the production sequence. |

There should be a section near the front of the owners manual that tells you how to do it. At least there is in the XB and Blast manuals. |

I think the last five numbers are the production run. Mine is #509 and was made late October as I recall. |

M1...if that was the case, my S1W would be the 25,269th bike made that year |

Brad, I was riding the '97 Blackbird to work while I was doing a top end on the S3. I picked that up 3 years ago from a guy who had laid it down (minor damage) but was out of work while his elbow was healing. I got it for what he owed on the loan. A guy at work took the picture of me and I just thought it was funny to have a 5 MPH speed limit sign above a bike that will do 170. Drew (who likes to play squid) rides it most of the time. They call it a sport-tourer but I don't think I could do much long distance touring on it. He is riding with me to Newfoundland though. |

Can anyone give me a link-to or a summary of what I need to convert my '99 S3T from injection to carburetion? I still like the bike, but it has never really run as well as it should with that fuel injection. I have the race chip in it and an aftermarket exhaust. I wish that shade tree mechanics could get into that EFI system to fine tune it. Being that I have to be subjected to a HD dealer to get it working with FI, I'd rather spend the money on parts I can tune myself. |

I still pop in now and then. I'm riding an R1. I enjoy the power but it definatly lacks less tangible aspects that Buells have. Unfortunatly, I'll have another S3 to part out soon. Anybody need any green S3 body work or bags? Another casualty of the "Buell motor in a Sportster frame" fashion that lost us so many S1s. There've been so many motors pulled out leaving the Buell frame and parts, I've become an expert at picking them up. Rather distasteful, but I do it anyway.....but only as a service to those who need parts to keep their Buell on the road Really...stop laughing...cut it out...it's not funny....sigh. bighairyralph

BHR, If you come across a S1 frame, I'd be interested. BTW, the Blast is alive and well. My daughter loves it! How's the new addition? (Almost one pretty soon right?) Brad |

Hello, Just joined the site and need some help with an engine problem! I have a 1998 S3T and my engine is dying while I am riding the bike. It has happened several times now and usually occurs when the fuel tank is low on gas, but not empty ( its not the reserve tank). I assumed it was a vapor lock issue, but I can't find any problems with the gas tank vent tube and I have removed the CA. charcoal canaster. I have cleaned out the tank and petcock filter and I'm not sure what else to do. Anyone have any suggestions and/or recomendations on how to fix the problem? The engine sputters before dying like it is starving for fuel. After the engine dies, it starts up right away and runs fine again. Its a mystery! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Albert |

Did you plug the vacuum hose from cannister to carb as it is a vacuum leak if not?And have you tried to open the gas cap when this happens? If you hear a woosh of air entering, your vent is the culprit. You also might want to take out your petcock and make sure the screens are clear of crap--may be cutting off fuel when tank gets low. |

Firemamjim, Thanks for the advice, the cannister tube is not hooked up to the carb. since I have removed the cannister and installed a forcewinder air cleaner kit. I did clean out the petcock filter, but don't think that is the problem. It's possibly the vent cap but I haven't be able to determine that as of yet. Thanks again. Albert |

Hope you put a plug on carb nipple where that line came from.Seems to me there were 3 lines to cannister, one from tank vent, one from carb(vacuum source) and a big one to air cleaner.Vent line must be clear, other 2 must be plugged. |

IaMike, I've got a 1990 CBR1000F which has the identical seat/bar/peg relationship as your XX and I love the bike as a sport-tourer. But you need to have shortish legs (I'm a 32 inseam). I've done the Blueridge Parkway 5 times from Jersey on my CBR. The big bike likes the constant radius corners. I considered the Blackbird when back when I bought the Buell. Once I sat on the XX and realized it was the same thing as I already had (minus the great built-in crash bars of my '90 model) I started looking in another direction and ended up with the Buell. There are rumors of a 1300XX in development. Now that's something I'd be interested in. I just hope Honda doesn't cheap out on the suspension like they always do. A rear shock on your XX will transform the bike. If my CBR wasn't 15 years and 51k miles old I'd put a shock into it. Wish I were smarter (and richer) years ago. Just my 2 cents. |
