Yeah...the origin is a bit convoluted...but the basic design is Browning...but also relied on expiring Pederson patents...after first relying on expiring Remington patents. At any rate, it's a solid gun with a smooth action known for being one of the most durable shotguns ever produced as well as being the oldest design still in production. There's some decent trench gun info here: https://www.rockislandauction.com/blog/trench-gun/ The 1897 gets all the love, but mechanically it certainly wasn't the best of them. Cimarron still lists a replica in their catalog, though it is a Chinese clone not known for being a solid performer. IAC imports them as well...which have a better reputation...but aside from being cool and getting all the clout historically...I've never been a real fan of the 1897 design in general. So at the risk of turning this into an oil or tire thread , I'm thinking about adding another carry piece. I love my XDs but thinking more capacity. I want to say Sig makes a compact that carries 12... I also like striker-fire and prefer no thumb safety, with a break trigger and/or backstrap safety like my XDs. The fewer buttons to hit under duress, the better! Any thoughts/advice? RD's video above got me thinking about different brands... |

There's the Sig P365 that's all the rage...as long as you get a current production gun they are good to go. It's a 10+1 unless you buy the $50 extended magazine. It's a nice little gun that's supposed to shoot almost as well as a full sized pistol. It's a little small for my tastes, but is likely the most size efficient pistol out there. It can be had with or without a manual safety. |

I was an Army brat and was a Cub Scout at Black Hills Ordnance Depot in SD. One activity we had was to visit the Provost Marshall and what I remember is the MP Sgt showing us a riot gun. No bayonet, though. Although, that makes me think of the famous AR15 Chainsaw attachment. |

If you were already a 1911 fan, I'd recommend the Sig Sauer P938 in 9mm. I don't carry a 9mm at present, but that is about to change with a P938. I believe the size makes it worth training on. https://www.sigsauer.com/products/firearms/pistols /p938/ Comes in different flavors, even .22LR. |

}Swalwell made clear his belief that U.S. gun policy ought to emulate Australia and New Zealand: Ah, yes...NZ. Where...what...212 people have surrendered their firearms? TOTAL? |

If it is 212 people so far and I seriously doubt that figure, how many of them were gang members and or criminals? Oh yes, that would be NONE. No, the last thing the US should do is emulate Australia and NZ's gun laws. |

There was an article posted here a while back (few weeks?) that showed it was like 212 people, or 187 people, or some other stupid-low 3 digit number... I agree. No way we should do this. An Aussie contributor on FNF this morning said it best: "what we have in Australia now...bad guys have guns, but no good guys have guns". Well...duh. But the DNC knows...an unarmed populace can't effectively fight back against oppression. Therefore.... |

The new "Combat Magnum" arrived. 20190619_195802(0) by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr It's a nice gun, and shoots well enough. I look forward to bringing it home and messing with it some. Unfortunately, I also lost my favorite knife that I've had for some twenty plus years. Hopefully it pops up somewhere. |

Sig Sauer P938 BRG Micro-Compact in 9mm.
I'll lay a Beretta 21A-22 LR on top of it for size comparison.
P938 is thinner with hard grips on it. |

The Sig is cool. I like the "SAS" version. The Beretta is cute. I wouldn't mind one.} |

I got my wife the STAND because she was carrying a Kimber in .380. Now she only carries the Kimber on Sundays. I have to keep the Beretta oiled well. I take the grips off about once a month. It gets sweat on a lot. I only cocked it because the Sig was cocked. |

Find people to be with brother. My heart goes out to you. Dwell on the true, honest, just, pure, lovely, good report, virtuous, and praise, think on these things. Recognize when negative stuff starts clouding your mind and push it out with better thoughts. Survive! Allow time to work. Know there are people out here praying for and caring about you. Find a piece of metal and turn it into something. |

Been talking with my parents and brother. Very strong support from my neighbors including dinners at the door. Have to go to Greely, the county seat to collect personal effects and all my firearms that were taken Sunday night. Had a long visit on the phone, with the detective in charge. He apologized for them being forced to take my guns, used his available discretion to leave my airguns. Even gave me his personal phone number. Weld County Sheriff Department gets a giant thumbs up from me. Thanks for the kind thoughts brothers. Z |

Zac. My deepest condolences. I really hate to hear this. Reach out to your "anchors", family and friends who can help hold it down with you. Sometimes, let it fly, but be sure someone's got the hold fast. Dang man. Marcia lost her first husband, her two kids' dad, on the side of a Miami highway as he was changing a tire. She and the kids were in the car when he was hit and killed. She lost her second husband to suicide. I'm doing my level best to take care of her. She's an extremely strong woman, stronger than I am. Prayers and anything else, I'm here. Keep us in the loop as things allow. |

He's a Bodhissatva... Thank you so much. That is a huge word with a meaning far greater than I am. The advice I got from others along the way. It is good advice. I am honored by your attempt to bestow it upon me. Thank you. |
