The last time I changed the rear tire, 6644miles ago, the wheel bearings felt a little rough, when supporting the rear wheel with my fingers in the bearings, then rolling the wheel. I decided to to use those bearings, even though they felt a little rough. Now, It's about the same (fingers in the bearings). But, with the wheel mounted, with the axle in the swing arm, with the belt off, I can't detect roughness, and it spins smoothly. I'm not sure if I should be concerned. In the past I have changed the bearings if I detected roughness , when supported by my fingers.

Replace them now while you are in your comfy garage, or replace them later, unexpectedly, and never near home.

YMMV.

Use a dental pick and pop off the rubber seals.
If anything is wrong in there it is usually very obvious.
Rusty shrapnel!

Sometimes, nothing is wrong and they feel weird when the spacer flops around inside.
At least I noticed that with my X1.

If there is any question replace them. It’s not worth the cost of a wheel, axle, belt, or tow bill if they go out one the road.

I generally change my rear bearings with each tire change - ~6,000 to ~10,000 mi - where I'll go two to three tire changes before I do the front.

It seems that I've heard they can feel "notchy", when the inner races aren't under the pressure of the axle.
I think they feel about the same as when I did the last tire change. I have changed them before, and when I get one side out they both feel smooth.
My front bearings are stock, about 39k.
