It's time. Looking at it, many would say way past time. It was a Continental TrailAttack2, and went approx 6644mi. Not bad, but the previous Mich. PR2 went approx 9323mi.
I'm going back to the Pilot Road 2.

I have Pilot Road 5's on the STT for max mileage and max grip. I really really like them!

So far I love my Avon Trailriders. Dual compound just like the PRs (expecting similar mileage from that), great handling transitions all the way from shoulder to shoulder, but chunky/thick/blocky tread so I can start doing non-pavement again.

And...I doubt you'll be able to find a PR2; they're up to PR5 now. You might be able to find a PR4, if you look...

I'm running PR4's and love them. PR5's will be next.

I like the PR2, and they are still available (at least a month ago they were). Do the later versions get as good of life/miles? Even though the PR2 is a road tire, I've put a lot of gravel road miles on them. They have a pretty heavy/thick carcass, so seem fairly puncture resistant.

I went through two set of PR2's and then went to the PR4's. The 4's were even better. Great in the rain and stick really well in the twisty's as proven in April on 60 North of TWO's campground!! I love the dual compounds they use. They did make an off road version but it was the same tread, just softer compounds but I elected to stick with the road version. They worked well in Colorado Jeep trails as long as there wasn't deep mud!

Rear tire, you say? I have been on a thinking too much kick. I trailered to Two's last trip thinking that I am running a thousand miles of center out of my rear tire every time I make the trip on the bike. As I left Crusty's yesterday the center of the rear tire was on my mind. We had been discussing tires a little. Then "BOOM!" the epiphany hit me, and AH HA! I don't use the center of the rear tire for anything important at Two's. The parts of the tire I need are available once I get there. Sure, the center would get ate up on a track day. But I try not to tag 80% throttle in between the corners there. It is amazing how little power I do use there compared to the straight streets up here. I've never picked the front tire up shifting into 5th down there. OK, now I'm just bragging. All that said, I plan on riding Lil Red to Two's next time.
