Need some top end gaskets for my Buell X1 and I've shopped all my cheapest/best alternatives but was wondering if I could find them cheaper if I looked for Harley/sportster gaskets. Which Harley gaskets will work for a tube frame Buell? Not exactly sure what they call the engine...Evo,xl, etc |

I prefer the Cometic gaskets. Price and quality can't beat them. |

That's what I was going for. But are the 91-03 Evo gaskets what I'm looking for to fit 95-02 tubers. Wouldn't matter if I wasn't such a bargain hunter. |

In general, sportster gaskets will work. Newer ones have the different rocker covers, the older tuber engines need one extra gasket that the newer PCV valve style engines don't need, so just make sure you pick a set for the right year. Somewhere way in the back of my head is something that makes me think the cam cover gaskets are slightly different too... the shape is the same but one or two of the holes in the gasket might be different. I could be making that part up though... Edit: I already started my reply before you posted your last response. Yes, the 90's sportster motors should be the ones that are compatible with the 90's buells. (Message edited by upthemaiden on May 14, 2019) |

The Cometic pushrod gaskets always fought me. The Fruitster motor you want is the 1200 Evo which runs up until 2004, I believe. They put 883 gaskets in their kits as well so make sure you're not accidentally sticking in a funny looking head gasket like I almost did once. Luckily, a hanger-on noticed before I put the head on! |

Yes the XL cometic top end will work. However, I prefer James base and rocker gaskets because they have a small bead of silicone made on them. Pigtails help at the base gasket as well. |

Don't cheap out on gaskets...unless you want to do it a second time. Just suck it up and do it right the first time, and they'll last MUCH longer. Leaks suck. Leaks that happen because you wanted to save $5, suck ten times more. |

Oh yeah definitely getting James or cometics just looking for the cheapest ones. They are much easier to find when listed as sportster rather than buell. Found em today thanks to everyone's help. |
