Does anyone make a better coil for X1's..? One that is plug & play? Is there a coil that isn't, which I have to just cut my plug and wire it to the terminals, with ring terminals. Mine looks great, because I replaced it already. My original lasts a long time, but this one maybe 2 years. Before I buy another high dollar HD P/N, I just had to wonder, IF anyone might know the answer, and also a if anyone else might be going thru these things and why? IF there is a better one I'd like to get that one so I can ride already. |

I don't think they are a common failing part. Everything breaks eventually of course. My 2000 is still on the stock coil with over 90K miles on it. One other thing to remember about those coils is that each unit has two coils with a common ground. Three primary wires and two separate HV outputs also with a common ground. Old school H-D units had only one input and one output. The two spark plugs were in series and fired at the same time, twice as often with wasted spark. That's why my ironhead would stop running if I unplugged one sparkplug. |

Yup, I guess so, because as it turns out, it wasn't my coil, it was my ECM. Luckily I bought a spare a couple of years back, so for now, it's going to stay fuel injected. |

I wish I knew, mines gotta be over 100k miles what I figured. I was broke back some years ago, when I had a carb on it, the speedo went out, and I rode it like that some 5 years b4 I could afford a new sensor, so my mileage is incorrect. I don't really care because I will NEVER sell this bike, but it would be nice to know. I had to take an educated guess based on my trips to work, and home, etc... |
