Firebolt won't stay runnin...have to hammer on throttle to keep her going....bike sat for 5 years I got it did whole fuel pump assembly, injectors, spark plugs and new battery I also went ahead and did the tps reset and dialed it inn...bike won't stay running but if I hold the throttle for a little and keep it from stalling I took it for a ride ran like crap at first alot of hesitation then started to clear up and ran great then wen I stopped at the light it idled perfect at like 1150 then I get home turn off and go to turn back on and nothing won't even fire up....tried it this morning after letting it sit on the tender over night and same problem again I can't figure it out...any help would be much appreciated |

Does it crank but not fire or no crank? I would pull and reinstall each fuse and relay one at a time so as to verify proper conductivity. |

Old gas could gum up the works too. |

Try popping off the gas cap and running it. If you’ve already cleaned the carbs and all the Jets, plunge or replace the fuel line, check your petcock and ensure you have proper flow through the float needle by removing the float bowl and putting a canister below the carb. I ran the gambit with my blast and it turned out to be a stuck vent/rollover valve that sealed the tank instead of venting it creating a vacuum that prevented fuel from flowing freely. Firstly it was a gummed up carb though. |

How'd you perform the TPS reset on a 2004 model? If you used the key off-on-throttle to full open, then closed, then open, then closed, key off routine, that's only for the newer models, 2009 and later if memory serves. It would do nothing for a 2004. |

I did the tps reset with the buell cord to my laptop |

I popped the gas cover off and it does seem to idle a little bit better but still the same symptoms and sounds like is running rich too Popping pretty good |

So close the fuel richness needle and dial it back 1.5 turns, start the bike and keep fine tuning the richness mixture until the idle stops speeding up by richness alone and move 1/4 farther open. Seems to be a pretty good gauge of a decent start point. |

Since you have a laptop, I'm guessing you have ECMSpy on it? What is your AFV reading? Did you reset that? New plugs? Did you do a proper learning ride? What is a "fuel richness needle" in a 2004 Firebolt? |

Yes I have ecmspy I did new plugs...the only thing I did was the tps reset...i have never heard of a fuel richness needle |

Make sure the alternator provides correct voltage during that stall events. Remove, clean and attach back all ground spots on motorcycle including upper tie bar wire. Perform air intake leakage test. Fix any air intake leakages. Make sure the air intake rubber boot are properly installed (the airbox baseplate must be sandwiched between the rubber boot flanges, the rubber boot also must seat on the throttle body all way down and be secured with ring clip). What is the AFV number show (Adaptive fuel value)?___ also reset it to 100 make sure plugs are clean not carbon up before test ride.Redo the TPS reset Before you get engine hot what is the IAT (inlet air temperature) and the ETS (engine temperature sensor) numbers compare the two temperatures when engine is cold. Are they within 10deg of each other. If not the ETS or IAT is bad. Use your ECM spy or buelltooth for the above AFV number and IAT ETS numbers. |

Make sure battery is good. Make sure chassis grounds are removed cleaned with green scotch bright both frame and ecm ground connections to the frame. Chassis grounds = (black computer ECM grounds to the bike frame) being that the frame is aluminum can cause ECM getting bad numbers. |

Things I would suspect are throttle body intake seals, improper TPS reset , Faulty O2 sensor. Throttle body intake seals can be easy to install wrong even when we think we did them right. |

I do the intake seals without engine rotation. Tricky usually takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours |

Gabby, I'm asking what the OP has for an AFV reading. I know all I need about what it means. |

I ended up designing custom intake manifold flanges with viton o-rings. Works flawlessly and much easier to install https://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?53975 -High-performance-intake-manifold-flanges-for-2008 -2010-Buell-XB |

Excellent design concept, how long did it take to machine them. Seems to me you you could probably sell these as an upgrade kit. |

I sent my CAD files in China prototyping company and they finished the parts within a few days. |
