Update. Had a death in family and I was in hospital for four days. Didn't feel like working on my bikes. Just put gas in the Buell, pushed the starter button and it fired right up! Rode it around the block and it ran perfect. Shut it down several times and it started right back up. Go figure. |

Good deal (with the bike, at least; not so good with the rest of it). Take a good look at the tank breather line as it sounds like you had the cap off and everything worked again. (Message edited by SteveFord on April 12, 2019) |

Not a clue. It did this once before when I was about to go for a state inspection. It wouldn't start. I went back in the house and took off my gear. Then went back outside to put it back in the garage. Tried to start it and it fired right up. Wished I could find out what's going on. Pretty sure it'll happen again. |

I had crappy injectors for a while there, caused me to put a carb on it. But I found a place in Tampa, which cleans injectors. Used to be $20 each. They fixed my Z28's dirty injector running issue, so I tried the Buell injectors and dam IF they didn't fix that to...!!! I rigged up a tester out of an animal medicine syringe, injector wiring pigtail, some carb cleaner, and an air line, and a battery, but that was before I found Boost Labs in Tampa. Awesome job, with a flow chart b4 & after. Awesome they fixed my Buell for $40. + shipping. 1 was a brand new injector from HD. I bet they sold a me a known bad one because it was for a Buell. |

One very common cause of random weirdness for X1's is a bad side stand sensor. I have experienced this on two different X1's. One went bad slowly, over a few weeks, and caused all kinds of intermittent weirdness – the bike would hesitate or lose power when accelerating at random times. The other X1 side stand sensor went bad almost overnight and made the bike didn't want to start. In both cases everything returned to normal as soon as I bypassed the sensor by fusing the wires together. Just don't forget to put your kickstand up before you ride! |

My starter always spun the engine. Would your starter spin with a faulty side stand sensor? BTW: My sweet little '99 Carbon Fiber Extreme is still starting and running good. |

On my '99, Yes the starter will engage with a bad side stand switch. Let out the clutch & it'll die. Luckily, mine wasn't intermittent. DAve |
