So I called Shorai and they no longer make this battery and their recommendation was a Yuasa lead acid. Huh? Any ideas? Does anyone know a cross reference that will work? |

Whaaaa? Call back and ask for Marianne or Sean. I got one 2 months ago for my EBR, they are Buell and EBR fans as well as amazing customer service. |

I think I recently saw on Facebook that the Shorai part number had just changed. I’m pretty sure a Shorai to fit the EBR is still available. |

This comes up if you do a vehicle search on Shorai’s page: https://shoraipower.com/battery?type=175&make=3827 94&model=382795&year=382795 Part number lfx21a7-bs12 |

Hugh: That’s the one I thought I needed. You cannot order it online from Shorai. When I called I was told to buy a Yuasa. I went into my local EBR dealer and he called LAP and ordered a battery. I hope I get one that hasn’t been sitting around too long and works. |

Interesting...I've bought a couple from them directly. Give them a phone call, actually talk to a person. I even put one of these battery's in my XB12s. Mike |

Skntpig - To verify... You have actually called Shorai, and they said that there is no more of that part number battery, correct ? There is nothing close in their catalog, size and power wise ? Hmmm, if that's true, I'm glad I have an extra..! Mike |

That stinks. There are other LION batteries made. Has anyone checked into the other brands per their dimensions/power ? Mike |

The battery size that the EBR uses is oddball size. Here is a reply I got back from Full Spectrum who makes PulseIPT Batteries.. "The Shorai in your bike is a bit of an odd size- 148*83*118. Our cases are meant to fit as direct replacement for BCI standard sizes, so it seems that we have stuff that is a little smaller, or larger. Here are the options. We have standard sizes that are on our website, and we can also put a larger pack into a smaller case. It'll just take us a day or two to make it for you. In stock- P.9BM- 150*65*93- 315 cranking amps/4.2 amp hour (12.6pbeq) $209 We can make- P.9L- 150*65*103- 360 cranking amps/6 amp hour (18pbeq) $219 Either or those will fit and work. The "L" version has a stronger pack. Both will have the full BMS. Note- a standard size Yuasa battery would measure 150*87. We make those in 4 different depths, from 93-145mm. If you think you have the extra few MM in the battery tray we can use that case size." |

It looks like what is needed is a way to get more room in the tray for a standard sized battery. I used an off the shelf $115.00 Batteries Plus AGM for the Beta. I needed to power it up just to list mileage for registration. Although it listed only around 225 CCA, just for kicks I tried starting the bike. It worked fine, and it has been working fine ever since. I don't remember the number but it fit OK except for the width. I need to space the seat up about 1/8" to get clearance. My fat butt deforms the seat pan enough that I don't think I'm doing any damage to the battery but if we made up a tapered insert to fit onto the bodywork to raise the rear of the seat pan that 1/8", and go to almost no lift at the front it would allow standard batteries to be used. |

Got a new 2 miles on it 2014 SX in the garage, Shorai was toast. Mostly narrowed it down to 1 of these 2, housing should be a fit, mocked it up out of foam to check. Dimensions: 5.9in (L) x 3.4in (W) x 4.5in (H)150mm(L)x86mm(W)x115mm(H) EarthX ETX24C @ 259 Ah: 7.8A Pulse Crank Amps (PCA): 420A Cold Crank Amps (CCA): 270A Weight: 2.6 lb vs EarthX ETX36C @ $349 same size housing! More cells packed in? Ah: 12.4A Pulse Crank Amps (PCA): 680A Cold Crank Amps (CCA): 320A Weight: 3.9 lb is there a $90 advantage to big capacity? |

Since EBR is now building (well, assembling) new EBR’s again, I wonder what they’re using for batteries? |

Hugh, if those spreadsheets from the LAP firesales were accurate, they have plenty of NOS batteries. |

Who wants to buy brand new old-ish batteries? Even buying a new battery I try to pick a high volume dealer with better turnover. |

EarthX ETX36C @ $349 Ah: 12.4A Pulse Crank Amps (PCA): 680A Cold Crank Amps (CCA): 320A Weight: 3.9 lb Found one "open box" on amazon, in and working. had enough room to make a battery glove out of some "open weave" foam shelf liner. Had a clamp type ammeter on it while starting and very briefly saw over 300A, no idea how accurate that is. But it spins motor with authority. Still need to dump and refill "gas frame" prolly 2 months away from adding to the 1.9 miles on it. |

I have a Shorai battery and charger that I bought for my 1125 a few years ago. The battery is an LFX18L1-BS12. It's been on the charger's storage setting for almost all the time I've had it. Too big for my other bikes. What's the charger and battery worth? If you want it make me an offer. I'm in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. |

the # on the AGM battery I bought for the SX Beta is a Batteries Plus XTAZ14S. I recall it was about 115.00 ( a quick internet search suggests they can be had a LOT cheaper) It fit, but was a bit too wide, so the seat pan doesn't quite meet the tail by about 1/16th at the back. when I sit on it the pan deforms enough to close that. I'm sure that's not good for the battery but it seems to be working OK for now |

I got a new one from the EBR dealer in Fort Myers. They ordered from EBR and I had it in a few days. |

Those AGMs are cheap but are at least 100 CCA less than the stock Shorai. I guess at that price it's worth having to replace every 1-2 years. |

"Those AGMs are cheap but are at least 100 CCA less than the stock Shorai. I guess at that price it's worth having to replace every 1-2 years." Maybe? If it was that simple, but we all know a dead/weak battery will ruin at least a couple rides before we get around to swapping in another battery. Eventually, just to get the right one and save the headaches. I not rich, but I have learned "Buy once, cry once" |

I am using a BikeMaster Platinum 2 non-spillable MS12-7c-A in my 1190SX. Works fine and fits in the space and was $45 on Amazon. It weighs a bit more but I went through two Shorai batteries in a year so wanted a cheaper alternative. |

Shorai will warranty a battery failing so quickly (if it was the batteries fault) ahem... |
