Hello gents : )
Not quite.
Actually EV has some advantages in cold climate too. Norway is good example. I did not even know that 40% of car sales there are EV. Iceland is not cold at all comparing to Norway in winter.
Good read.

Greg, that's an interesting suspicion you have about those OR folks. I know the one you're talking about, but there are a number of fabs in the country. What made you think I work there? Sounds like you are familiar with some thin film dep or etch?

As far as the "one step" comment, I don't doubt it one bit. I'm not about to claim that that type of manufacturing is non-hazardous at all. Just that renewable energy is feasible. Like Jamiec said, once the item is made, it stops polluting.

1. Elementary deduction. (You provided clues.)
2. Designing the machines did give me some familiarity with the etch and HDCVD processes. As they say, "Been there, done that, got the t-shirt."
Actually we were given nearly an entire wardrobe to include some pretty fancy belt buckles.

Like Jamiec said, once the item is made, it stops polluting.

I don't recall Jamiec saying that.
Perhaps you are referring to Ciemny02's statement.

Second and that's a big difference, battery once made works.

This is true until they fail to hold a charge, usually in ten years or less.
After that they are a large, highly toxic lump that is either dumped into the environment or partially recycled.

Many ICEs are still functioning as designed after more than fifty years.

"Many ICEs are still functioning as designed after more than fifty years."

Gregtonn,

yeah that's true but every second of work during this 50years = *polluting*
Both from engine itself and extraction of oil which is necessary in this every dirty second : )

Batteries once made are pure. When used can be at least partially recycled. And that is in 10years intervals.

We'll NEVER get rid of the need for petroleum. It is a major ingredient in making tires, plastic and asphalt. But at least we can cut down on how much of it we burn and can never reclaim.

Greg,

1. D'oh
2. Neato; and yes, you're correct, I was referring to Ciemny02's point. I was trying to point out what he just did, but was being lazy about it.

Actually nature reclaims it for us. Burning petroleum does indeed produce CO2.
This can be a good thing.
Sequestering CO2 can be a very bad thing.
Without CO2 there would be no plants. Without plants we would have a severe reduction in oxygen.
Without sufficient oxygen most animal life would cease to exist reducing the amount of CO2 available for plants.
Do you see the problem here?

Nature has many ways of dealing with stupidity.

Gregtonn, that's great but we're also cutting down forests at an unprecedented rate and creating more CO2 than the world can handle. You're not totally wrong but you're also not taking the whole picture into account.

There has been higher CO2 concentrations in the past and the world handled it. Not to mention higher temperatures in the past centuries with lower concentrations, so the world not handling it seems unfounded.

Actually you are the one "not taking the whole picture into account".

How are those forests going to be reestablished without sufficient CO2?
Are you aware that many greenhouses enrich their atmosphere with CO2 to accelerate plant growth? The plants can and will handle it.

Please take note of the last sentence in my post above.

There are more trees on this planet than there have been in 100 years. Things are getting better, not worse. While we may be cutting trees at a record rate (don’t know, so I’ll believe you for the sake of argument) we’re also planting them faster than we harvest them. Lumber companies have planted more trees than all the greenies combined. It’s their crop. Seems silly to get excited about the harvest.

Weed side note:
You can get a 200% increase in growth by burning propane in a catalytic heater in your grow room.

Fun fact since we are talking about Whacky Tabacky:

Back in the '70's in Colorado, it was legal to grow Mary Jane, but illegal to harvest it. Got a visit from the local cops one day after they noticed my plants missing from the windows. I had to explain to them that my sister destroyed them climbing in my window because mom locked her out.

I also remember visiting a local park where the annual Rocky Mountain Bong-a-Thon was being held when I was a pre-teen.

I suspect we're going to see some innovative and amazing developments.

First motorcycle to have storage in a sensible spot. Storage behind the rider contributes to less than ideal vehicle dynamics -- this places it almost as the center of gravity, for minimal effect on handling and stability.

The Fuell ebike is pretty nice too.

Pretty sure Honda's NC700 series has been doing a similar storage compartment for a few years.
